The U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition returns to downtown San Diego’s waterfront on Labor Day weekend, showcasing incredible works of art made with sand by sculptors from around the globe. The four-day event includes live entertainment, an exposition featuring goods made by artists, activities for the kids and gourmet food trucks.

Festival of Sail

The Festival of Sail, an annual Labor Day weekend tradition at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, returns this weekend with a fleet of tall ships sailing the San Diego Bay, cannon battles, family entertainment, a kids’ zone, bay cruises and food vendors.

When: September 1 – 4 | Friday 12 – 7pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am – 7pm, Monday 9am – 5pm

47th Annual Barona Powwow

The three-day cultural celebration kicks off on Friday, Sept. 1 with Gourd Dancing at 6pm and an awe-inspiring Grand Entry of dancers in colorful regalia at 7pm. Over 1,000 Native American participants of all ages will showcase their dancing skills and musical talents as they compete for over $75,000 in prize money. Visitors to the Powwow will enjoy authentic Indian tacos and other delicious dishes, admire beautiful Native American arts and crafts, view dance exhibitions and competitions, and experience the richness of Barona’s Tribal heritage.

Del Mar Summer Concert Series: The Revivalists

The American rock band formed in New Orleans, The Revivalists, will take the Seaside Stage on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017. The Revivalists are known for putting on an energetic live show equally steeped in instrumental virtuosity and charismatic vocal magnetism. The concert is free with paid stretch run general admission to the track, which is just $6, otherwise it’s $20.

Julian’s Grape Stomp Fest

This Saturday, stomp on grapes once again at the 21st anniversary of the fiesta. Ten local wineries will be offering sips for sampling, plus a unique blend of food and shopping opportunities, all while you listen to charming Italian music.

The old-fashioned Ramona Country Fair began last night and goes through this weekend. 14th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival

Adventurous music invades the seaside Village of Carlsbad for the nationally renown 14th annual Carlsbad Music Festival on August 25-27. The Festival programming is an eclectic mix of creative music ranging from contemporary classical, to indie rock, to world music, to electronic; plus a Green Flash beer garden and food trucks steps from the beach.

Oceanside International Film Festival

Held every August, Oceanside International Film Festival officially kicks off a season of various film festivals, which are conducted annually in San Diego county and usually continue through the fall. The eight-day event OIFF-2017 will run in the same format and at the same venues as the previous year, screenings and celebrations taking place at two oldest theaters in town, Star Theatre and Sunshine Brooks Theatre.

28th Annual Vista Rod Run

The Vista Rod Run features 300 + classic and specialty cars. Car owners compete for the best of the best to win awards and prizes.

Sip of Julian

Julian is about more than just cider and apple pies. This Saturday, spend the day getting a taste of the town’s best wine, beer, craft cocktails and hard cider. Vista BBQ Classic

The Vista BBQ Classic is an official Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned event in Historic Downtown Vista.  For the past 8 years, teams have traveled from all over the state to compete for prize money, trophies, points and bragging rights.

BBQ teams will descend on Historic Downtown Vista on Friday, July 28th, starting as early as 8AM to spend up to 24 hours seasoning, smoking, and grilling their choice cut of meats for competition day on Saturday, July 29th.  Our 2017 award-winning teams will compete for a total of $10,000 prize money, KCBS points and trophies.

Stagecoach Days: Soldiers & Citizens

Old Town San Diego continues its summer “Stagecoach Days” celebration with more historical demonstrations in the plaza, in the heart of the park. On Saturday, the “Soldiers & Citizens” theme will celebrate the military’s role in San Diego, focusing on the Mexican-American War and the soldiers of many cultures that came to San Diego very early on. The day includes a chance to see historic military uniforms, weapons and hear the stories of these soldiers.

Extreme AutoFest

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

This (July 21 & 22) Friday & Saturday’s free movies (find locations via the schedule link) include:

  • The Sandlot
  • Zootopia
  • The Jungle Book
  • Grease

San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival

The San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival returns to San Diego after a 12-year hiatus! This three-day event, open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, combines smooth jazz, delicious local eats, and the beautiful San Diego skyline.

‘Much Ado About Nothing’ At Coronado Playhouse

Coronado Playhouse stages Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” directed by Kit Fugrad. This production is part of the theater’s 21st Annual Free Classic Play. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Sunset Artwalk

Start your summer weekends off right at the winery! Join us every Friday night during the summer for art, wine, music, food and shopping in the Winery Village from 4-9pm. Meet local artists and enjoy their work in the courtyard along with live music, food vendors and of course, tasting room, shops and café open late! Free admission. Families welcome, please no pets. Music tonight: Kevin Begin 5:30-8:30pm

Day of Play

Join Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center for some free family-friendly fun! Enjoy hands-on cooking, gardening, crafts, nutrition, games and physical activities in a beautiful outdoor garden setting. The Day of Play promotes healthy living and environmental responsibility. Families with children of all ages are welcome to attend.

64th Annual Over-The-Line

Games start at 7:30 a.m. promptly and continue until dark on both weekends of Over-The-Line.

Over-The-Line is a public event and requires no ticket or entrance fee to watch the games and enjoy the tournament.

Mission Hills Concerts in the Park: The Highwayman

The Mission Hills Concerts in the Park is an annual event that occurs on Fridays in Pioneer Park. Bring your picnic baskets and catch up with neighbors and friends while you sing and dance to the music.

The Highwayman is an immensely gifted vocalist who channels the spirits and voices of the original Highwaymen in a breathtaking two hour performance. Prepare to be amazed how one man can emulate all four of Outlaw Country’s favorite musical icons.

Summer Sundays

Come out and enjoy your summer evening with music from Lady J and Soulful knights at this family-friendly event. Catch a different beat and cruise a different car club every week. Then enjoy food & product samples from our merchants and fun activities for the kids including free crafts, balloon sculptures and face painting. Bring your friends and visit our photo booth complete with fun props and receive free photo strips of your experience.
