The South Park Walkabout is a quarterly fun-filled evening festival that showcases all the unique and independent businesses within South Park, San Diego. Enjoy complimentary treats, live entertainment and special offers.

The Walkabout highlights both the south and north end of the South Park business district. The north end starts at Kalmia and 30th St. and extends south to Beech Street.

9th Annual Puppy Love 5K

The ninth annual Puppy Love 5K is for the whole family, so bring the kids and pups and enjoy the expansive bay view!

Once you pass the finish line, head over to the BARKetplace for food, giveaways, costume contests, opportunity drawings, FREE kid’s activities, awards, and more!

Flower Power Family Day

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Annual San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade (largest Parade west of the Mississippi) will step off on Saturday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. on Fifth Avenue at Laurel Street as thousands of marchers and spectators gather to celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland.

We have over 120 Parade entries. See floats, high school marching bands, police and fire department units, dancing groups,marching and equestrian units, clowns, dignitaries and honorees, representatives from Ireland, antique cars, Irish setters and more.

The Theme of this year’s Parade is “Celebrating Our Irish Roots”.

Storytelling Festival

Come one, come all for a storied day of the wearin’ of the green at the Storytelling Festival. Wise Fools is the theme for World Storytelling Day. During this global celebration of the art of oral storytelling, there are special children’s programs, out-of-town guests, and a culminating concert for adults.

Personal storytelling shines with Scott Whitehair of Chicago, and the Pandarvis’ stories of being professional surfers. Students from Paul Ecke Elementary will perform. Randel McGee and his dragon puppet sidekick, Groark, are a special treat for all ages.

Come get involved in workshops: Personal Storytelling; Puppetry 101 Hands On; and The Joy of Bible Storytelling. Savor it all. The Simply Fresh Gourmet Food Truck will be outside during lunch time.

Circus Vargas

Circus Vargas has been making its rounds and, this weekend, it keeps the show going at Escondido Westfield North County. The traveling show boasts thrilling performances by acrobats, daredevils, flying trapeze artists, jugglers, contortionists, comics and more. The Circus Vargas theme is “Dreaming of Pirates,” so attendees can expect some swashbuckling surprises. Take the family 30 minutes before show time and enjoy a special, free pre-show where kids can create their own magic under the big top. Tickets range from $15 to $72; kids age 2 and under get in free with a paying adult, so long as they sit on an adult’s lap. Circus Vargas will be in Escondido through this Monday before moving north to Temecula on March 8.

Spring Home & Garden Show

Get inspiration for the home improvement project of your dreams at the 33rd annual Spring Home & Garden Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This three-day expo will showcase some of the newest trends in home renovation while giving access to the best tools, experts, and businesses to help complete those projects. Tickets cost $9 per day. The Home & Garden Show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

31st Annual Koi Show

Koi fish have become known as “living jewels” because of their bright orange hues and quick movements in the water that seem to make them reflect. This weekend, hundreds of the magnificent fish will be on display for a Koi pond competition at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Guests can learn how to create a water garden in their backyard to keep Koi as pets or just soak in the wonder of the fish. The event is free but parking at the fairgrounds is $14.

Enjoy a movie under the stars at this outdoor theater on Goldfinch Street in Mission Hills. The winter/spring screening season recently began, with a movie playing at 8 p.m. now through April 29 every Friday and Saturday night. This weekend, the Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford flick, “Blade Runner 2049,” is on the big screen. Check the Cinema Under the Stars website for a schedule of which movies are playing when throughout the season.

Make N’ Play Family Music Day

Children will have the opportunity to create an instrument of their own. In this, the first of these interactive workshops, the focus will be on making a box guitar. Younger children will be able to make simpler instruments such as shakers and rattles. With their new instruments, children will be invited to “join a band” and play with others on the stage.

Free snacks, giveaways and additional hands-on activities round out this fun filled afternoon! No experience necessary and all supplies are provided. Adults must accompany children. Geared toward children ages 4-12 and their families.

Santee Active Lifestyle Expo

This free event Saturday in Santee highlights some of the many health and wellness activities San Diego County has to offer. The event kicks off with the U.S. Track & Field 50KM Race Walk Championships at 7:30 a.m. Then, guests can explore the Expo and try extreme obstacle courses, test fitness classes, shop the vendor fair and meet elite athletes.

Sunday Organ Concert

Enjoy a free, hour-long organ concert Sunday at Balboa Park’s famed Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At the keys, the audience will find Raul Prieto Ramirez, the city’s newest San Diego Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Prieto Ramirez hails from Spain and, as he told NBC 7, hopes to keep the program interesting – from Bach to Queen – at the historic Spreckels Organ.

Tonight enjoy Carlsbad’s popular TGIF Concerts in the Parks series. For over 30 years, the City of Carlsbad has presented live music throughout the city. This year, nine concerts will be presented in four beautiful parks in Carlsbad.

With a variety of food vendors for all your picnic needs, hands-on art activities for all ages, green grass for hanging out with friends and family, top quality live music and a dance floor to boogie the night away, TGIF has everything you need for a great night out in Carlsbad.

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

Friday Night Liberty

The Arts District (2640 Historic Decatur Rd.) at Liberty Station hosts its monthly art walk, “Friday Night Liberty,” a free event showcasing the working artists of this up-and-coming hub. The event also features live entertainment, including dance, theatre and music.

Little Italy Summer Film Festival

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

It’s the last weekend for the famous Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch — and a perfect place to take Mom for Mother’s Day! The fields are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through May 14. Patrons will enjoy nearly 50 acres of colorful displays of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers, which are in bloom for six to eight weeks. The famous fields also include roses, orchids, sweet pea blossoms, petunias and poinsettias.

Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival

If Mom’s into crafting, take her to the Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival — this three-day supply show at Bing Crosby Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds caters to quilters, sewers, stitchers and crafters looking for inspiration. The expo will feature hundreds of booths and vendors, plus free classes and make-and-take workshops. Admission is $10 for all three days; parking is $13.
