Twain Fest

The 10th annual TwainFest heads to Old Town Saturday, a celebration of all things old-timey. The free, family-friendly event includes live music, Mark Twain-inspired storytelling, poetry reading, games, prizes, and puppet shows. There’s also a literary costume contest and a mock election game where participants get to cast their ballots in the election of 1872.

Downtown Chula Vista will transform into a Winter Wonderland with real snow for sledding, holly, jolly treats like photos with Santa, fun games, story time, train rides, bounce house, ornament making and an all new “Elf Yourself” station where the little ones can dress up in hats, face painting and glitter bar to magically transform into Santa’s Little Helpers.

Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities

The community is invited to enjoy the holiday magic with an 88-foot Norfolk pine tree lighting, a Holiday Marketplace with local vendors, Christmas carolers, pictures with Santa, a viewing of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” and more!

Live entertainment will kick off the evening at 5 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., the tree lighting ceremony will commence as a patient family of Rady Children’s Hospital lights the towering Christmas tree from top to bottom.

Following the tree lighting, peruse the Holiday Marketplace for holiday goodies, gifts and more in the Central Promenade, or grab a bite from the one of the neighborhood eateries before the outdoor viewing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,”

Bazaar Del Mundo’s Annual Latin American Festival & Mata Ortiz Pottery Market

The Oceanside International Film Festival officially returns this August for five days’ worth of independent cinema.

Food Truck Fridays

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

Dinner & A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to many of our local bands and musicians. Join us Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for a great time and great food from our downtown restaurants.

Summer Movies in the Park

Across the county, cities are taking part in the movie screenings at local outdoor parks. Almost every day of the week this summer, San Diegans can find a free outdoor movie screening thanks to a county-wide initiative. This weekend, watch “Coco”, “Toy Story” or “Moana” at parks in the area (check the website below).
