La Mesa Park Appreciation Day

The public is invited to participate in the 13th annual Park Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 13, 2018, 8:00 am to noon.  Park Appreciation Day provides volunteers the opportunity to give  back to their community and help beautify
La Mesa Parks by assisting in projects that include planting, picking up trash, raking, painting, trimming and weeding. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves and tools such as rakes, trowels, trimmers, shovels etc. All ages welcome!

BOOmont Fall Festival

Polish Festival

Santee Bluegrass Festival Fundraiser

Carlsbad Music Festival

The 15th annual Carlsbad Music Festival is a 3-day summer celebration of “adventurous music by the beach” on Friday-Sunday, August 24-26, 2018, in the charming seaside Village of Carlsbad. The Festival, called “one of the area’s most innovative music showcases” by KPBS, features 60+ performances of creative music of all kinds curated by Founder and Artistic Director, composer/violinist Matt McBane. These include ticketed Mainstage Concerts, dozens of FREE outdoor concerts all weekend, and a beer garden, food trucks, and artisan market.

Grunion Run

In what may be its last run of the season, thousands of grunion, slim silver fish, will come out of the water and onto the shoreline to spawn. To see the natural event that happens only a handful of days throughout the year, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife recommends heading to a San Diego County beach with a flashlight. Runs are expected through Tuesday at various times but sightings are not guaranteed. Grunion sightings may occur at: Oceanside Pier View North Beach, Oceanside Harbor Beach, Del Mar Beach, La Jolla Shores, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Coronado and Coronado Shores Beach and Imperial Beach.

Sunday Organ Concert

Enjoy a free, hour-long organ concert Sunday at Balboa Park’s famed Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At the keys, the audience will find Raul Prieto Ramirez, the city’s newest San Diego Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Prieto Ramirez hails from Spain and, as he told NBC 7, hopes to keep the program interesting – from Bach to Queen – at the historic Spreckels Organ.

The Talmadge Art Show is celebrating its Silver Anniversary – 25 years with two main shows and two Pop Up shows in 2018. In 25 years, over 3,000 artists have participated. Artists represent all types of craft and come from San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, as far as Tucson and Santa Fe.

The next Pop Up Show will be on Cygnet Theatre’s Elaine Lipinsky Patio in Old Town- 4040 Twiggs Street, Saturday July 28 from 2-8 p.m. It will feature 18 artists who create and sell high quality crafts. The Talmadge Art Show is partnering with Cygnet Theatre to support its mission by donating a portion of the sales from the art show. Pop Up Art Show is free and everyone is invited to attend.

Nat Diego

More than 60 natural wine producers from around the globe will give guests a taste of their creations at the second annual Nat Diego in Barrio Logan. Natural winemakers say their wines are free of chemical additives, are made by hand and farmed responsibly. While Nat Diego features an array of seminars and parties from Friday through Sunday, the Grand Tasting, where guests can sample dozens of wines with the purchase of a $50 ticket, is on Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. The full schedule can be found here.

Sip of Julian

Julian may be known for their delicious pies, but this annual event shows there is more to the city than just apples. Winemakers, beer crafters, mixologists and more will be offering up samples of their local creations at Sip of Julian 2018. A $25 general admission ticket to the 21-and-up event gets guests tastes from Blue Door Winery, Julian Ciderworks, Golden Coast Mead and Julian Wine & Chocolate, just to name a few. Ticketholders also get access to small bites from Julian eateries. A shuttle will take guests from stop to stop with the addition of a $10 shuttle ticket. Proceeds from the event help the city of Julian fund their annual Country Christmas.

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

Switchfoot considers San Diego home and because of that, the alternative rock group wanted to create a way to give back to their community. So, they established the Switchfoot Bro-Am, an annual charity surf contest to raise funds for San Diego children in need. The contest gets underway at 7 a.m. this year. After, it’s time for live music from local bands, including a special concert from the event hosts themselves. General admission to the concert is free but guests should register in advance here.

Oceanside Independence Parade

The streets of Oceanside will don red, white and blue as the annual Independence Parade marches through this Saturday. Hundreds of guests will line the street to catch a view of the patriotic parade as it travels up Coast Highway from Wisconsin Street to Civic Center Drive starting at 10 a.m.

Bayside Summer Nights: Spar-Spangled Pops

The San Diego Symphony’s annual summer concert series along the waterfront returns with a pop-tacular concert that pays tribute to America in honor of Independence Day. The concert will feature patriotic tunes as well as a selection of scores from movies, like “Lincoln” and show tunes from Broadway. Each night, the outdoor show end with a star-spangled fireworks display. Tickets start at $30 for lawn seats.

Bring a blanket and enjoy an outdoor movie on a summer night in Santee. Once a month, Santee Lakes will screen a different family-friendly film for Movies and More by the Lake, like this month’s pick, “Lego Batman.” The event is free but parking costs $10. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero for the event.

The 39th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival will offer attendees eclectic fun in the sun for all ages. Food Truck Fridays

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

A San Diego Father’s Day weekend tradition, the San Diego Wooden Boat Festival is the premier annual event for Southern California wooden boat enthusiasts and provides a rare opportunity for the general public to view some of the most beautiful and well maintained wooden crafts up close. While this event features mostly well preserved vintage vessels there are also plenty of new crafts that have been hand crafted with skill and meticulous detail.

Belmont Park 5th Annual Father’s Day Fest & Car Show

This Father’s Day, treat dad to a special day at the beach and cruise on down to Belmont Park for their FREE annual Car Show on Sunday, June 17th from 10am-3pm located in the North Parking Lot at 3146 Ocean Front Walk. Get your fix of classic cars and more at this FREE event before cruising over to Draft or Beach House with the family. There will be nearly 100 cars including a selection of restored classic cars to enjoy.

Asian Pacific Historic District Walking Tour

The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum and the Asian Pacific Historic Collaborative are offering a docent-led tour of San Diego’s Asian Pacific Historic District on the second Saturday of each month.

Visitors will walk through the Gaslamp Quarter and Asian Pacific Historic District to see the sites of Asian Americans who populated the area beginning in the 1850s and explore the Chinese, Japanese and Filipino districts that once filled the area.

Music En La Calle: Free Music Festival And Street Fair

Bodhi Tree Concerts will present Music En La Calle a free, multicultural, all day, outdoor music festival in City Heights on Saturday, June 16 from Noon – 10 p.m. The artist line up will include: Tom Cunningham Bluegrass, Music and Dance of Africa, China, & Burma, Fern Street Circus, Opera de Tijuana and Irving Flores Latin Jazz – just to name a few!

There will also be food, visual artists & community vendors selling their wares.
