The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

The famous Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch officially opened for the season on March 1; the fields are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through May 14. Patrons will enjoy nearly 50 acres of colorful displays of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers, which are in bloom for six to eight weeks. The famous fields also include roses, orchids, sweet pea blossoms, petunias and poinsettias.

Mission Federal ArtWalk

The 33rd annual Mission Federal ArtWalk returns to Little Italy in San Diego this weekend. Stroll over 15 blocks filled with artwork from over 350 local, national, and international artists on Saturday. The weekend-long event is recognized as one of San Diego’s premier arts and cultural event and the largest fine art festival in Southern California. The free family-friendly event also features live music, street food, interactive art activities and KidsWalk.

Spring Butterfly And Garden Festival

A family-friendly event at Cuyamaca College and The Water Conservation Garden featuring the Ornamental Horticulture department’s biggest plant sale of the year, and exhibitors and vendors with garden-related information and merchandise.

The Garden will be hosting tours of the butterfly pavilion and feature kids activities, butterfly release, storytime and more.

Encinitas Spring Street Fair

2017 Adams Avenue Unplugged

The sixth annual Adams Avenue Unplugged along a two-mile stretch of Adams Avenue this weekend. The popular music festival is free, and will feature more than 80 artists performing on 30 stages.

San Diego Rose Show

The San Diego Rose Show at the McMillin Event Center (2875 Dewey Rd.) at Liberty Station. The show, presented by the San Diego Rose Society, invites amateurs to showcase their roses in the exhibit hall to be admired by judges and attendees. Local rosarians will be on-hand to share tips on how to select and grow the best roses, depending on where your garden grows.

Chocolate Festival

At the Chocolate Festival, learn about the history of chocolate and how it came to the U.S.; browse and taste a variety of chocolate from more than a dozen local vendors. Foothills Christian Church in El Cajon will host its annual Easter in the Courtyard on Saturday which includes an egg hunt boasting 14,000 Easter eggs. Also on the agenda: jumpy houses, carnival games, a shop-and-swap zone and food for sale from Ray’s BBQ.

The 41-year-old Fred Hall Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is the largest outdoor recreation show in the nation’s fifth largest county. It is San Diego’s biggest fishing show, biggest boat show and biggest outdoor recreation event of the year. The show features nearly 500 booths, hundreds of boats, vehicles, campers and RV’s. Over 200 outdoor recreation seminars will take place over the 4 days of this show.

Stars at West Sycamore

Join the San Diego Astronomy Association (SDAA) for this springtime stargazing session at Mission Trails Regional Park Friday night. Weather permitting, the group meets at the West Sycamore staging area located at the east end of Stoneybridge Parkway in Scripps Ranch. The event is free; and there will even be telescopes that you can use.

Santee will kick off the holiday season Friday night with this Holiday Lighting party at Santee Trolley Square, which includes live music, arts and crafts for the kids, a mini express train, a petting zoo, snow sledding, food vendors and photos with Santa ($12). The event itself is free, but some activities may cost a small fee. Don’t miss the tree lighting ceremony, which happens at 6:15 p.m. sharp.

Jai Ho! Bollywood Party: Diwali Night

This Bollywood party celebrates the Indian tradition of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Activities include a dance lesson, Henna tattoos and an 11 p.m. dance performance, and tunes of DJs Ukeim and Prashant. Entry is free to the first 100, pre-registered attendees until 10 p.m. Otherwise, it’s $10 per person at the door. Attendees are encouraged to wear traditional Indian attire.

70th Annual Mother Goose Parade

The 70th annual Mother Goose Parade is Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016. Always the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

The parade includes colorful and exciting parade entries, such as floats, marching bands, giant helium balloons, clowns, eloquent equestrians, special guests, and of course Santa Claus at the end of the parade. The parade route travels down Main Street. Parade begins at 1 p.m.

“Globe for All”: Free Performance of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure”

Audiences around San Diego get the chance to see free performances of one of William Shakespeare’s beloved plays in their own community as part of The Old Globe’s “Globe for All” program. The program, now in its third year, brings free and low-cost performances of a Shakespeare play to communities around San Diego. This year, the program will put on Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure.”

HauntFest

Howl-O-Ween Canine Carnival

Ocean Beach Kiwanis’ Annual Howl-o-Ween Canine Carnival will be held at Dusty Rhodes Park on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a Howl-O-Ween Party and Street Fair for OBceans and their best friends, featuring games, prizes, costume contest/parade (for dogs and their humans), and food. Guided Nature Walk: Chicken Thief

Join an MTRP Trail Guide on a guided nature walk and learn about the plants, animals, geology, history, and ecology of the park on one of their scenic trails. These interpretive nature walks are offered to enhance your appreciation of the unique beauty of San Diego’s natural environment.
