U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge And Dimensional Art Expo

At the U.S. San Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Expo, world master sand sculptors from the Netherlands, Italy and Canada, from exotic places like Latvia, Russia and Tasmania come to challenge the best in the U.S. with astounding dimensional art. There’s live entertainment (tribute bands, singers and more), a sand box and rides for kids, a dozen gourmet food trucks, a fantastic view of the bay and all the great stuff that you always find on the Embarcadero.

San Diego County has events all over the place this weekend: movies, art, music and food are all on the list of fun things to do!

The Talmadge Art Show is celebrating its Silver Anniversary – 25 years with two main shows and two Pop Up shows in 2018. In 25 years, over 3,000 artists have participated. Artists represent all types of craft and come from San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, as far as Tucson and Santa Fe.

The next Pop Up Show will be on Cygnet Theatre’s Elaine Lipinsky Patio in Old Town- 4040 Twiggs Street, Saturday July 28 from 2-8 p.m. It will feature 18 artists who create and sell high quality crafts. The Talmadge Art Show is partnering with Cygnet Theatre to support its mission by donating a portion of the sales from the art show. Pop Up Art Show is free and everyone is invited to attend.

Sunday Organ Concert

Enjoy a free, hour-long organ concert Sunday at Balboa Park’s famed Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At the keys, the audience will find Raul Prieto Ramirez, the city’s newest San Diego Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society.

Nat Diego

More than 60 natural wine producers from around the globe will give guests a taste of their creations at the second annual Nat Diego in Barrio Logan. Natural winemakers say their wines are free of chemical additives, are made by hand and farmed responsibly. While Nat Diego features an array of seminars and parties from Friday through Sunday, the Grand Tasting, where guests can sample dozens of wines with the purchase of a $50 ticket, is on Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. The full schedule can be found here.

Sip of Julian

Julian may be known for their delicious pies, but this annual event shows there is more to the city than just apples. Winemakers, beer crafters, mixologists and more will be offering up samples of their local creations at Sip of Julian 2018. A $25 general admission ticket to the 21-and-up event gets guests tastes from Blue Door Winery, Julian Ciderworks, Golden Coast Mead and Julian Wine & Chocolate, just to name a few. Ticketholders also get access to small bites from Julian eateries. A shuttle will take guests from stop to stop with the addition of a $10 shuttle ticket. Proceeds from the event help the city of Julian fund their annual Country Christmas.

Food Truck Fridays

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

Fiesta de Reyes Cinco de Mayo Folklorico Festival

Dancers from throughout Southern California and some from as far away as Sacramento and Las Vegas have competed for the past eight years in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park at the annual Fiesta de Reyes Folklórico Competition. This year the event, to be held over the Cinco de Mayo weekend, is expanding to include dance troupes from Mexico and throughout the Western United States.

The competition is free for the public to attend and will take place in the center of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Children and adult performances alternate throughout the day, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 6. Live bands will take the stage in the afternoon until 9 p.m. on Saturday and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. In addition, the state park will showcase children’s activities throughout the day.

47th Annual Barona Powwow

The three-day cultural celebration kicks off on Friday, Sept. 1 with Gourd Dancing at 6pm and an awe-inspiring Grand Entry of dancers in colorful regalia at 7pm. Over 1,000 Native American participants of all ages will showcase their dancing skills and musical talents as they compete for over $75,000 in prize money. Visitors to the Powwow will enjoy authentic Indian tacos and other delicious dishes, admire beautiful Native American arts and crafts, view dance exhibitions and competitions, and experience the richness of Barona’s Tribal heritage.

Del Mar Summer Concert Series: The Revivalists

The American rock band formed in New Orleans, The Revivalists, will take the Seaside Stage on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017. The Revivalists are known for putting on an energetic live show equally steeped in instrumental virtuosity and charismatic vocal magnetism. The concert is free with paid stretch run general admission to the track, which is just $6, otherwise it’s $20.

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

Julian’s Grape Stomp Fest

This Saturday, stomp on grapes once again at the 21st anniversary of the fiesta. Ten local wineries will be offering sips for sampling, plus a unique blend of food and shopping opportunities, all while you listen to charming Italian music.

21st Chula Vista Lemon Festival

Celebrate Chula Vista’s historic reign as the lemon capital of the world at their Lemon Festival! Third Avenue will close to traffic and open to hundreds of vendor booths welcoming over 35,000 eager attendees rejoicing in this juicy jubilee. Sport your brightest yellow outfit and enjoy lemon-infused activities, live bands, sour contests, Lemon Pie Eating and Lemon Peeling and Largest Lemon contests, a kid’s fun zone, a craft beer garden, and hundreds of festive booths.

Oceanside International Film Festival

Held every August, Oceanside International Film Festival officially kicks off a season of various film festivals, which are conducted annually in San Diego county and usually continue through the fall. The eight-day event OIFF-2017 will run in the same format and at the same venues as the previous year, screenings and celebrations taking place at two oldest theaters in town, Star Theatre and Sunshine Brooks Theatre.

28th Annual Vista Rod Run

The Vista Rod Run features 300 + classic and specialty cars. Car owners compete for the best of the best to win awards and prizes.

Also featured at the Rod Run is a street fair with arts, craft, and food vendors; live entertainment; and downtown shopping.

Sip of Julian

Julian is about more than just cider and apple pies. This Saturday, spend the day getting a taste of the town’s best wine, beer, craft cocktails and hard cider. A “Sip of Julian” runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving guests time to sample all the wine, beer and liquor they want, paired with small bites at each stop.

5th Annual Craft Beer Festival

A beer festival in an un-paralleled historical location right on San Diego Bay. Let your taste buds experience various craft beer vendors while you enjoy live music.
