Now that it’s December, there are holiday events in abundance all over San Diego County!

Ring in the holidays with free festivities at the Chula Vista Starlight Parade and Children’s Faire!

Back by popular demand, the free Children’s Faire runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Friends and family, young and old, can make their way to Memorial Park and take a ride down everyone’s favorite Frosty’s Snow Hill! Downtown Chula Vista will transform into a Winter Wonderland with real snow for sledding, holly, jolly treats like photos with Santa, fun games, story time, train rides, bounce house, ornament making and an all new “Elf Yourself” station where the little ones can dress up in hats, face painting and glitter bar to magically transform into Santa’s Little Helpers.

Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities

The community is invited to enjoy the holiday magic with an 88-foot Norfolk pine tree lighting, a Holiday Marketplace with local vendors, Christmas carolers, pictures with Santa, a viewing of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” and more!

Live entertainment will kick off the evening at 5 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., the tree lighting ceremony will commence as a patient family of Rady Children’s Hospital lights the towering Christmas tree from top to bottom.

Following the tree lighting, peruse the Holiday Marketplace for holiday goodies, gifts and more in the Central Promenade, or grab a bite from the one of the neighborhood eateries before the outdoor viewing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,”

Garden of Lights

Parts of the San Diego Botanic Garden are transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland with over 125,000 sparkling lights illuminating the garden for a magical holiday experience!

Festive holiday activities abound including sledding, holiday crafts, marshmallow roasting, food trucks, hot mulled wine, beer and refreshments, as well as visits with Santa (December 1 – 23) and horse-drawn wagon rides (December 14 – 23 & 26 – 30). Enjoy great live entertainment every single night from 6 – 8 p.m.!

Winter Wonderland Festival

Children will have the chance to frolic in real snow, create winter-themed arts and crafts, and even rendezvous with live reindeer!

The highlight for kids is, of course, Santa Claus himself, but there will also be a number of holiday-themed entertainers—from carolers, to stilt walkers, to hula dancers—for all ages to enjoy. Food and drink will be available to warm your hands and hearts, and a number of local businesses will be displaying their wares for your holiday shopping needs.

Rady Children’s Ice Rink in Liberty Station

Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary and Liberty Station welcome San Diegans to kick off the holiday season with outdoor ice skating at the Rady Children’s Ice Rink at Liberty Station beginning Saturday, November 17 and closing Sunday, January 6.

The outdoor rink will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Kids Free October

October is Kids Free month in San Diego at more than 100 participating restaurants, attractions and hotels. That means free meals, free admission to theme parks, museums and more, and free gifts at several other locations. Kids can take a dive at Legoland when an adult buys their ticket, visit the animals at either the San Diego Zoo or San Diego Zoo Safari Park (or both!), or dine free at Carnitas Snack Shack, just to name a few. La Jolla Art & Wine Festival

Back for its 10th season, the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival aims to do two things — celebrate local artists and inspire young artists through art education programs at schools. The free two-day festival returns to the heart of the La Jolla village with more than 1,150 artists’ work on display. There will also be a beer garden, gourmet marketplace, a silent auction, pet adoption stations and a lineup of entertainment and music.

El Cajon Dinner and a Concert

One of El Cajon’s premier events, our Dinner & a Concert Series is back again this year in the center of Downtown El Cajon. Dinner & A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to many of our local bands and musicians. Join us Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for a great time and great food from our downtown restaurants.

Seas ‘n’ Greetings

The magic of the holidays meets the magic of the underwater world at Birch Aquarium during Seas ‘n’ Greetings, a month-long holiday celebration featuring SEAsonal activities for the whole family.

From December 1 to 31, Birch Aquarium  is transformed into a holiday wonderland. Deck the Hall (of Fishes) and get into the holiday spirit every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and check the schedule for special appearances by Scuba Santa as well as themed animal encounters, a scavenger hunt, and fun photo opportunities. On Saturdays and Sundays, things are even more festive with live music and two daily dive shows. The schedule changes daily, so check the calendar for details. All Seas ‘n’ Greetings activities are included with admission.

There is no Garden of Lights on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Encinitas Holiday Parade

For the 60th year, Encinitas will kick off the holiday season at the 2017 Encinitas Holiday Parade, presented by Lazy Acres Natural Market on Saturday, December 2.  Thousands of people will be on floats, on foot, in cars, and marching in bands while tens of thousands cheer them along the Parade route along Coast Highway 101.  The nighttime parade theme for 2017 is “Celebrating the Arts!”
