San Diego Guitar Festival

Back for its second year, the San Diego Guitar Festival is proud to present award-winning guitarists, including Grammy-winners David Russell and Paul O’Dette. 27th annual Multicultural Earth Day

Fallbrook Avocado Festival

Celebrating its 31st year, the event draws up to 100,000 visitors and features all things avocado — from sweet and savory foods to avocado-related products. Special events include a guacamole contest, a “Little Miss” or “Little Mister” Avocado contest (ages 6-10), a Best Decorated Avocado contest and the Avo 500 children’s car race. 21st Annual Lake Poway Youth Fishing Derby

Grab the fishing poles and the kids and head to Lake Poway (14644 Lake Poway Rd.) for a morning of free, family-friendly fun. The lake has been freshly stocked with 1,500 pounds of rainbow trout and will be open only to youth age 15 and younger for this derby. The event includes entertainment, storytelling contests, a free BBQ lunch and prizes to be given out during a 1 p.m. awards ceremony. No registration is required.

Mardi Gras

Find a little slice of New Orleans in San Diego’s historic Downtown Quarter by attending this mega Marti Gras party in downtown San Diego. 16th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival

The SDAFF runs through Nov.14 across six venues: UltraStar Mission Valley at Hazard Center; MCASD in La Jolla; UC San Diego’s Calit2; the Museum of Photographic Arts; the San Diego Marriott; and the La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas. With more than 130 films and programs from 20 countries, organizers say it’s the largest showcase of Asian cinema on the West Coast.

San Diego Mac n’ Cheese Festival

The San Diego Mac n’ Cheese Festival at downtown’s Waterfront Park will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A $35 general admission ticket gets each attendee mac n’ cheese samples, plus 10 beer tastings. There will be a Gourmet Mac n’ Cheese competition, too – a head-to-head showdown between several local restaurants. Winners in two categories – Best Mac n’ Cheese in San Diego and People’s Choice Mac n’ Cheese – will be selected by a panel of expert judges and attendees, respectively. Proceeds from this food fest will benefit the nonprofit organization, World Wide Network of Learning.

Gourmet Food Truck Festival

The Fall Food Truck Festival is expected to bring 40 gourmet food trucks from across Southern California to the Seaside Concerts area at the Del Mar Racetrack. Most items will range between $6 and $8, and organizers say attendees can expect delicious dishes such as Cousins Maine Lobster, Rajin Cajun, The Grilled Cheese Truck and Devilicious. Admission into the food truck area is free with paid admission ($6) to the racetrack.

Festival of the Bells

Celebrates the anniversary of Mission San Diego de Alcalá, the Mother of California’s 21 Missions, which was founded by Blessed Father Junipero Serra on July 16, 1769. All five Mission bells are rung during the weekend festivities, including an original bell dating back to 1802. There will also be food, entertainment, dancing and traditional activities like the Blessing of the Bells and the Blessing of the Animals.
