Head to La Mesita Park in La Mesa for a free outdoor screening of “Despicable Me 2.” The movie starts at 8 p.m., but family-friendly, pre-show activities and entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m. Pack a lawn chair, blanket and snacks for this event.

Point Loma Summer Concerts: LomaPalooza
The Point Loma Summer Concerts series is back for its 15th season. On Friday, an all-volunteer committee is hosting the “LomaPalooza,” an evening of free live music performed by local bands from Point Loma and Ocean Beach.

The 35th Annual Padres Tailgate and Fire Fighter Chili Cook-off
Go to Embarcadero Marina Park South for the 35th Annual Padres Tailgate and Fire Fighter Chili Cook-off to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, then head on over to Petco Park for an exciting game of Padres baseball!
Sponsored by San Diego City Fire Fighters Local 145, more than 25 local fire departments are expected to compete for bragging rights for the best firehouse chili in all of San Diego. The Padres Tailgate & Fire Fighter Chili Cook-off will feature all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst and snacks
Admission is all inclusive! $50 for adults and $20 for children includes a ticket to the Padres vs. Marlins game at Petco Park that evening.
When: Saturday, July 25 | 12 – 4:45 pm, the game begins at 5:40 pm

23rd Annual Sea Chantey Festival
Take a trip back in time when you spend an afternoon aboard the Star of India Sunday, the world’s oldest active sailing ship. Enjoy sailors singing the chanteys they used to sing during their off-watch time and bring the kids to sing along.
