The San Diego County Fair presents A Fair to Remember: a Celebration of World’s Fairs and Balboa Park. The fair will be open June 5 to July 5, and it’s always a great start to summer here in San Diego County!

“Sundays at Six” free summer concerts in La Mesa

La Mesa…. The La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation announces the 14th season of the City of La Mesa’s “Sundays at Six” free outdoor concerts. The popular concert series are held at the beautiful outdoor amphitheatre at Harry Griffen Park, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On June 21, the concert covers Pop Vinyl (Top 40). The “Sundays at Six” concerts series is also sponsored by Grossmont Center and the Chapel at Grossmont.

Mass Creativity Day

new children's museumJoin the New Children’s Museum for Mass Creativity Day on Saturday, June 20 from 10am to 4pm! This free festival will transform the Museum’s park into a vibrant collection of creative art-making stations with activities for all ages. Each experience will encourage attendees to celebrate their local neighborhoods as they work alongside fellow community members on collective art projects.

Activities will include:

  • A city on wheels where attendees can use their creativity to build, transform and rearrange
  • A whimsical treehouse village where families can craft and design mini treehouses
  • A hidden story house where people can write poems and share memories
  • A colorful dance floor that children can paint as they move and dance to upbeat music
  • Complimentary Museum admission
  • Activities in the Museum’s organic garden, musical performances, food stations and more

Balboa Park 1915 Expo Centennial Festival

The Golden Hill Community – Balboa Park 1915 Expo Centennial Festival is to be held on June 20th, 2015 and hosted by the Greater Golden Hill Community Development Corporation with funding support provided by a City of San Diego Office of Small Business economic and tourism development grant (EDTG). The event will highlight the unique communities of Greater Golden Hill in 1915 to the present and how the surrounding neighborhoods played a key role in the building of the 1915 Panama – California Exposition on the “East Mesa”. This family-fun event will be a history and music celebration featuring a historical exhibition, antique car show & tour, live music, a historic craft beer garden, local vendors and a youth & family village.

House of Sweden Midsummer Festival

To help highlight Balboa Park’s 100th anniversary throughout 2015, the House of Sweden is offering a smorgasbord of festivities, including food for thought, during its annual Midsummer celebration in June. What’s more, the house will be open the entire week leading up to , which marks the summer solstice as well as Midsummer.

Members of the Swedish Women’s Educational Association (SWEA) are serving coffee and buns on June 18 and June 19 from 12pm-2pm . The women might also bind wreaths for display.

Activities on June 20 from 12pm -4pm are centered on kids and family fun. House of Sweden volunteers will read children’s literature, fairy tales and some of Astrid Lindgren’s popular Pippi Longstocking stories. Other books, games, crayons and coloring-book drawings of Swedish images will be available for the children’s enjoyment.

All the festivities culminate on June 21 from 12pm-4pm with a dance around the Maypole. Live entertainment will include Ylva, her women’s chorus and Balboa Park’s International Dancers. Volunteers will serve plates of Swedish meatballs, cookies and beverages. A good time will be had by all.
