Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

This Friday’s (Sept. 15) free movie (find locations via the schedule link) includes:

Best of the Best Film Festival

This two-evening program features a variety of fiction and documentary short films by the students of SDSU’s acclaimed Television, Film, and New Media Production program.

This evening features 90-minutes of new work, and highlights from past festivals.

Dinner And A Concert: Siren’s Crush

One of El Cajon’s premier events, the Dinner and a Concert Series is back again this year for another stay in the center of Downtown El Cajon. Dinner and A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants.

The Chicano Federation is celebrating National Hispanic and Latino Heritage month with ¡Celebra! a fun-filled salsa dancing evening.

Fiestas Patrias: Old Town

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park celebrates Mexican Independence Day on Saturday with Fiestas Patrias, a free, family-friendly event that includes piñatas, crafts, living history demonstrations, traditional music, dance groups and other activities throughout the park highlighting life for early settlers in the 1830s and 1840s.

Landlubbers Day

Avast, me hearties! In celebration of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Seaport Village is hosting the third annual Landlubbers Day, a festive celebration of all things pirate. Held Saturday, September 16 from noon to 4 p.m. the free event features live music from the Jackstraws, San Diego’s very own pirate-themed band; costume and “Talk Like a Pirate” contests for kids, adults and pets; a mermaid grotto; arts and crafts; and food and drink specials from Seaport Village shops and eateries.

Fiestas Patrias: Chula Vista

Music, cultural dance performances and tasty food! Chula Vista’s Fiestas Patrias runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and features more than 20 musical and cultural dance performances, all with a beautiful view of the city’s Marina and shopping district. Enjoy yummy food, face painters, kids shows, carnival lane, a children’s area and interactive zones as well. It’s a fun day for the entire family.
