2014 Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade

Port of San Diego balloon paradeThe scenic, bayside streets of downtown San Diego will come alive with the 2014 Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade – a National University Holiday Bowl Production. As always, this exciting family event brings together world-class marching bands, magnificent floats, entertaining drill teams, and a procession of enormous balloons-more than any other parade!

Family Science Saturdays

From catapults to rockets, families are encouraged to join the tinkering! Family Science Saturday activities are free with admission into the Science Center.

2nd Annual San Diego Half Marathon

If you missed it in 2013 or you’re dying to run it again, the 2nd Annual San Diego Holiday Half Marathon is the same fast 13.1 mile course that starts in Rancho Penasquitos, along Carmel Mountain Rd (your only ‘real’ hill at mile 1.5), along the 56 bike path and finishes at the beautiful Torrey Pines State Beach. The race includes a 711-foot net elevation drop which also makes it a personal best candidate.

Event: San Diego Zoo holiday celebration

imagesJungle Bells are ringing: The San Diego Zoo’s fourth annual holiday celebration continues daily through Jan. 6. This year’s event includes live animal shows, tree-lighting ceremonies, animal encounters, storytelling, holiday décor and food specials, Santa Claus and extended hours. Every evening through Jan. 6, the zoo will stay open until 8 p.m. (except on Christmas Eve, when the park will close at 5 p.m.). The park is open Christmas and New Year’s Day. The 50-seat 4-D theater hosts screenings of nature films throughout the day with 3-D video and special effects (bubbles, mist, snowfall, scents, vibrating seats) for a separate fee. There’s a Santa’s workshop with live music, evening storytelling and tram tours and themed décor; San Diego Zoo; 2920 Zoo Drive in San Diego.

Everything but movies are included with admission, which is $44 for adults and $34 for children (3-11).

Christmas Events for This Weekend

37th Annual Coronado Christmas Parade & Open House

Friday, December 7  |  3pm – 9pm

Embrace the magical nostalgia of Coronado on Friday, December 7th.  Nowhere else is magical excitement in season than during our annual Christmas Parade, complete with Santa’s arrival by ferry.  This year marks the 37th year the Coronado Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Holiday Open House celebration that has become a tradition for countless San Diego residents and visitors alike.  This special evening showcases the magic of our island and promotes our unique assortment of boutiques and shops, making shopping local easy with Orange Avenue closed to cars from 5-9 PM.   The magical isle of Coronado has so much to offer year round, but it is during the holiday season that our small town truly reflects the magical destination it is….thus the theme of our festivities “Timeless Holiday Magic”…..part fun, part sun, and part fairytale!

Christmas Event: “Deck the Halls” at Rancho Guajome Adobe

“Deck the Halls”: The Rancho Guajome Adobe’s 16th annual family holiday celebration continues today with elaborate Christmas decor in each room of the 28-room hacienda, storytellers, folkloric dancing, carolers, children’s hands-on crafts, tractor-drawn wagon rides, blacksmith and wool-spinning demonstrations, food for sale and more.
