Seas ‘N’ Greetings

Carols by Candlelight

The 27th annual Carols by Candlelight concert features musical stars singing holiday classics to benefit San Diego’s Rady Children’s Hospital. This year’s lineup includes: BJ Thomas; Brandy Clark; Collin Raye; Noah Guthrie; Eve Selis; and Anna and Steve Vaus. The show will be held both Friday and Saturday at the concert hall at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido; tickets range from $18 to $67.

Parade of Lights

Festive lights illuminating the San Diego Bay can only mean one thing: the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is back – a holiday tradition upheld by the local boating community bulb for bulb, year after year. This year’s Parade of Lights returns this Sunday with more than 80 boats decked out in bright holiday lights and decorations proceeding from Shelter Island past Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village and Coronado’s Ferry Landing.

Balboa Park’s biggest event of the year returns this weekend, kicking off the holiday season with food, live music, dancing, shopping and free admission to museums. December Nights runs for two nights – Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 – from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., respectively. Museums are open and free both nights, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

2016 Chula Vista Starlight Parade

The 2016 Chula Vista Starlight Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 with Frosty’s Snow Hill opening at noon, followed by the parade beginning at 6 p.m.

The famous Chula Vista Starlight Parade is San Diego County’s largest nighttime parade, filled with twinkling lights, holiday décor and activities for the whole family to enjoy! From noon to 5 p.m., children can take FREE sled rides on REAL SNOW down Frosty’s Snow Hill. And the whole family can dine at Snack Alley on Park Way, or at one of the many eateries along Third Avenue.

Queen Bee Market

The urban-style handmade market Queen Bee is hosting their largest event of the holiday season this weekend. Stop by the industrial warehouse to browse through more than 85 local and national vendors. Attendees will be able to shop vintage and homemade products as they listen to live music.

Holiday Tree Lighting and Winter Wonderland Festival

Every year, the Center brings the North Pole to the heart of Escondido. Children will have the chance to frolic in real snow, decorate their very own Christmas cookies and even rendezvous with live reindeer!

The highlight for kids is, of course, Santa Claus himself, but there will also be a number of holiday-themed entertainers—from carolers, to stilt walkers, to hula dancers—for all ages to enjoy. Food and drink will be available to warm your hands and hearts, and a number of local businesses will be displaying their wares for your holiday shopping needs.

2nd Annual San Diego Half Marathon

If you missed it in 2013 or you’re dying to run it again, the 2nd Annual San Diego Holiday Half Marathon is the same fast 13.1 mile course that starts in Rancho Penasquitos, along Carmel Mountain Rd (your only ‘real’ hill at mile 1.5), along the 56 bike path and finishes at the beautiful Torrey Pines State Beach. The race includes a 711-foot net elevation drop which also makes it a personal best candidate.

Event: San Diego Zoo holiday celebration

imagesJungle Bells are ringing: The San Diego Zoo’s fourth annual holiday celebration continues daily through Jan. 6. This year’s event includes live animal shows, tree-lighting ceremonies, animal encounters, storytelling, holiday décor and food specials, Santa Claus and extended hours. Every evening through Jan. 6, the zoo will stay open until 8 p.m. (except on Christmas Eve, when the park will close at 5 p.m.). The park is open Christmas and New Year’s Day. The 50-seat 4-D theater hosts screenings of nature films throughout the day with 3-D video and special effects (bubbles, mist, snowfall, scents, vibrating seats) for a separate fee. There’s a Santa’s workshop with live music, evening storytelling and tram tours and themed décor; San Diego Zoo; 2920 Zoo Drive in San Diego.

Everything but movies are included with admission, which is $44 for adults and $34 for children (3-11).

37th Annual Coronado Christmas Parade & Open House

Embrace the magical nostalgia of Coronado on Friday, December 7th.  Nowhere else is magical excitement in season than during our annual Christmas Parade, complete with Santa’s arrival by ferry.  This year marks the 37th year the Coronado Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Holiday Open House celebration that has become a tradition for countless San Diego residents and visitors alike.  This special evening showcases the magic of our island and promotes our unique assortment of boutiques and shops, making shopping local easy with Orange Avenue closed to cars from 5-9 PM.   The magical isle of Coronado has so much to offer year round, but it is during the holiday season that our small town truly reflects the magical destination it is….thus the theme of our festivities “Timeless Holiday Magic”…..part fun, part sun, and part fairytale!
