Movies and More by the Lake: ‘Lego Batman’

Bring a blanket and enjoy an outdoor movie on a summer night in Santee. Once a month, Santee Lakes will screen a different family-friendly film for Movies and More by the Lake, like this month’s pick, “Lego Batman.” The event is free but parking costs $10. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero for the event.

45th Annual San Diego Scottish Highland Games

Head to the 45th annual San Diego Scottish Highland Games in Vista, CA. Highlights include massed bagpipe bands, Scottish athletics, iid’s area, sheepdog trials, Highland dancing, foot and arts, Scottish clans area, and more!

39th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival

The 39th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival will offer attendees eclectic fun in the sun for all ages. Join more than 70,000 visitors from 10am to 8pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018, for tasty festival nosh, art, beachfront entertainment, shopping, and more. Entry to the Street Fair is always free! The Chili Competition featured tastings from amateur entrants competing for the titles of Hottest Chili, Judges’ Award, and Grand Prize: People’s Choice Award. Food Truck Fridays

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

As a free community event, La Mesa is once again beginning its Sundays at Six free summer concerts. This Sunday, listen to the music from Rachel Aldous and The Road Home!

El Cajon Dinner and a Concert

One of El Cajon’s premier events, our Dinner & a Concert Series is back again this year in the center of Downtown El Cajon. Dinner & A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to many of our local bands and musicians. Join us Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for a great time and great food from our downtown restaurants.

San Diego County Fair

The Kids Pond will be fully stocked for kiddos under 10 to catch a fish in!
1,700 lbs of trout will be stocked that week!
2,000 Egg Hunt for children under 10 will be held in Hermits Cove promptly at 1:00 p.m. with a special sectioned off area for those 3 and under.
Free Hot Dogs will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. in Hermits Cove as well!

Spring Tails

Spring Tails is the perfect program for a class field trip, Scout outing, or play group activity because it makes science egg-citing! Hop on over for a  60 or 90 minute adventure that includes HANDS-ON animal interactions, a spring themed craft, and lessons about life cycles, baby animals and other changes that occur during spring.

6th Annual Bankers Hill Art & Craft Beer Festival

Following last year’s sold out event, the Bankers Hill Art & Craft Beer Festival in partnership with the San Diego Brewers Guild will return for its sixth year on Friday, March 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. Taking place throughout the two levels of The Abbey on Fifth Avenue, a historic 10,000-square foot venue, this 21+ event will showcase San Diego breweries and Bankers Hill restaurants alongside pop-up galleries of local artists’ works.

This year’s festival will feature larger tasting glasses for guests who will have unlimited access to complimentary 2-ounce pours from approximately fifteen breweries

Carlsbad Flower Fields

On March 24 and 25, enjoy full days of fun at The Flower Fields with Kids’ Day. Saturday features a bounce house, woodworking with The Children’s Workshop, drumming, bubble making and more. Sunday we will have Star Kids Theater, Ballooning and face painting!

Spring is in the air and Carlsbad is in bloom at the Flower Fields, open now through May 13. Take yourself out of the ordinary and spend a few hours in one of nature’s wonders – our Fields of Dreams, our Fields of Color. A place where kids can run and adults can linger – 50 acres of extraordinary color in bloom on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with a special nursery, garden, and gift shop by Armstrong Garden Centers, and festivals throughout the season.

Egg Hunt Spring Eggstravaganza At San Dieguito County Park

This free, family event includes two egg hunts, arts and crafts, games, face painting and more. There will even be special golden eggs with bonus prizes inside! All ages are welcome to attend.

Rady Children’s Ice Rink at Liberty Station

All proceeds from this event benefit the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s.

Festival of Sail

The Festival of Sail, an annual Labor Day weekend tradition at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, returns this weekend with a fleet of tall ships sailing the San Diego Bay, cannon battles, family entertainment, a kids’ zone, bay cruises and food vendors.

47th Annual Barona Powwow

The three-day cultural celebration kicks off on Friday, Sept. 1 with Gourd Dancing at 6pm and an awe-inspiring Grand Entry of dancers in colorful regalia at 7pm. Over 1,000 Native American participants of all ages will showcase their dancing skills and musical talents as they compete for over $75,000 in prize money. Visitors to the Powwow will enjoy authentic Indian tacos and other delicious dishes, admire beautiful Native American arts and crafts, view dance exhibitions and competitions, and experience the richness of Barona’s Tribal heritage.

Del Mar Summer Concert Series: The Revivalists

The American rock band formed in New Orleans, The Revivalists, will take the Seaside Stage on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017. The Revivalists are known for putting on an energetic live show equally steeped in instrumental virtuosity and charismatic vocal magnetism. The concert is free with paid stretch run general admission to the track, which is just $6, otherwise it’s $20.

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

This Friday & Saturday’s (Sept. 1 & 2) free movies (find locations via the schedule link) include:

Julian’s Grape Stomp Fest

This Saturday, stomp on grapes once again at the 21st anniversary of the fiesta. Ten local wineries will be offering sips for sampling, plus a unique blend of food and shopping opportunities, all while you listen to charming Italian music.
