Seas ‘N’ Greetings

The holiday magic meets the magic of the underwater world at Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Birch Aquarium this Saturday. Throughout the day, walk through a winter wonderland, featuring festive decorations, music and ocean science activities. Don’t miss Santa as you have never seen him before: underwater!

Historic Gaslamp Quarter Tour

Opening a window to San Diego’s past, the Gaslamp Architectural Tour showcases the history of the Davis-Horton House built in 1850, as well as the history of the of the historic Gaslamp Quarter. The tour includes architecturally significant structures of the period, along with fascinating stories of the people and characters that shaped the destiny of San Diego.

21st Annual Lake Poway Youth Fishing Derby

Grab the fishing poles and the kids and head to Lake Poway (14644 Lake Poway Rd.) for a morning of free, family-friendly fun. The lake has been freshly stocked with 1,500 pounds of rainbow trout and will be open only to youth age 15 and younger for this derby. The event includes entertainment, storytelling contests, a free BBQ lunch and prizes to be given out during a 1 p.m. awards ceremony. No registration is required.

Mardi Gras

Find a little slice of New Orleans in San Diego’s historic Downtown Quarter by attending this mega Marti Gras party in downtown San Diego. The event, which spans across 16 blocks, will feature DJs, multiple stages for live music, rooftop performances and a parade. Ticket prices start at $30 and only those 21 or older will be allowed into the event.

Bite San Diego Food Tours

America’s finest city has a new treat for foodies: Bite San Diego, a food tasting and cultural walking tour (launched last month).

Bite San Diego will feature a guided tasting tour through Downtown & Little Italy as its first tour route. With tours scheduled every Friday and Saturday starting at noon, Bite San Diego will take up to 15 guests on a 1.5 mile tour of six noted restaurants. For Bite San Diego’s Downtown tour, guests will be hosted by: · Royal India, voted San Diego’s “Best Indian” restaurant for several years · Currant, San Diego’s modern American Brasserie in the historic Sofia hotel · Karl Strauss, San Diego’s first micro-brewery · Indigo Grill, a progressive “Pacific Rim” inspired restaurant by local famed chef, Debra Scott · The Glass Door, overlooking the harbor at the top of the Porto Vista Hotel · Café Zucchero, a traditional Italian bakery and café owned by the Busalacchi family Each restaurant will offer a generous taste of a signature dish and/or beverage, and guests will be treated to an overview of the establishment’s highlights and cuisine.

Tickets are $39 per person and booked in advance, online through Bite San Diego’s website.
