San Diego County Events for June 29 – July 1, 2018

This summery weekend in San Diego County, there’s so much to do!

San Diego county events this weekendSwitchfoot Bro-Am Beach Fest

Switchfoot considers San Diego home and because of that, the alternative rock group wanted to create a way to give back to their community. So, they established the Switchfoot Bro-Am, an annual charity surf contest to raise funds for San Diego children in need. The contest gets underway at 7 a.m. this year. After, it’s time for live music from local bands, including a special concert from the event hosts themselves. General admission to the concert is free but guests should register in advance here.

Oceanside Independence Parade

The streets of Oceanside will don red, white and blue as the annual Independence Parade marches through this Saturday. Hundreds of guests will line the street to catch a view of the patriotic parade as it travels up Coast Highway from Wisconsin Street to Civic Center Drive starting at 10 a.m.

Bayside Summer Nights: Spar-Spangled Pops

The San Diego Symphony’s annual summer concert series along the waterfront returns with a pop-tacular concert that pays tribute to America in honor of Independence Day. The concert will feature patriotic tunes as well as a selection of scores from movies, like “Lincoln” and show tunes from Broadway. Each night, the outdoor show end with a star-spangled fireworks display. Tickets start at $30 for lawn seats.

Summer Craft Fair

Handcrafted gifts and more created by local artisans, including wood products, Americana, jewelry, baked goods, home decor, soaps, pillows, antiques, and unique one-of-a-kind items.

Food Truck Fridays

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

As a free community event, La Mesa is once again beginning its Sundays at Six free summer concerts. This Sunday, listen to the music from Rachel Aldous and The Road Home!

One of El Cajon’s premier events, our Dinner & a Concert Series is back again this year in the center of Downtown El Cajon. Dinner & A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to many of our local bands and musicians. Global Winter Wonderland: Circus of Light

This 17-acre holiday festival is in San Diego for the first time ever this season, up and running at SDCCU Stadium through Jan. 7, 2018. The family-friendly international celebration features the largest display of traditional Chinese lanterns outside of China, plus acrobatics performances, carnival rides, holiday-themed activities, games, food and shopping. The little ones can even write letters to Santa Claus and visit sections like Toyland, Candyland and the North Pole. Global Winter Wonderland opens daily at either 4:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. but is closed on some dates.

Avast, me hearties! In celebration of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Seaport Village is hosting the third annual Landlubbers Day, a festive celebration of all things pirate.
