Santee Bluegrass Festival Fundraiser

“Beer, Wine, Dine & Let the Bluegrass Shine”

Please join the City of Santee and the Santee Park and Recreation Committee for the 9th Annual Santee Bluegrass Festival, a fund-raising event that supports people, parks and programs! This is a sampling event! There will not be full meal portions or full glasses of drinks.

Taste of South Park

Brad Paisley

Singer-songwriter Brad Paisley is bringing a bit of the countryside to San Diego. The Grammy-award winning country music star will perform at Chula Vista’s Mattress Firm Amphitheatre for one night only on Friday. Tickets to the concert start at $18.

Insect and Ladybug Festival

Thousands of critters are taking over the San Diego Botanic Garden for an event that teaches young ones and adults alike about the insect world. Live insects, lizards, snakes and ladybugs will be on display to give guests a close-up look at the fascinating creatures as bug experts answer any questions that arise. The event is free with a paid admission ticket to the San Diego Botanic Garden, which costs $18 for adults and $10 for kids 3 to 18.

San Diego Pizza and Beerfest

Pizza and beer — it’s practically a match made in heaven, something the organizers of San Diego Pizza and Beerfest know all too well. This festival will give guests the opportunity to sample a selection of more than 100 craft beers while noshing on slices of tasty ‘za from 15 local restaurants. Tickets to the festival start at $35 and pizza slices will cost about $3 to $5 a piece. There will also be two stages for live performances that will fill the air with music as the beerfest continues into the evening.

Food Truck Fridays

Food trucks will swamp Balboa Park every Friday this summer. A lineup of about a dozen food trucks will rotate each week through September 28 at Plaza de Panama ready to feed hungry guests while listening to a variety of live music. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the Botanical Building as they eat, or enjoy craft beer, wine and cocktails inside nearby restaurants. Booths will be set up with activities for kids and Balboa Park will introduce a “living room” area filled with giant lawn games. Surrounding museums will extend hours to accommodate guests and the San Diego Museum of Art will offer $5 admission after 5 p.m.

El Cajon Dinner and a Concert

One of El Cajon’s premier events, our Dinner & a Concert Series is back again this year in the center of Downtown El Cajon. Dinner & A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to many of our local bands and musicians. Join us Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for a great time and great food from our downtown restaurants.

Sunday Organ Concert

Enjoy a free, hour-long organ concert Sunday at Balboa Park’s famed Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At the keys, the audience will find Raul Prieto Ramirez, the city’s newest San Diego Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Prieto Ramirez hails from Spain and, as he told NBC 7, hopes to keep the program interesting – from Bach to Queen – at the historic Spreckels Organ.

Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities

Gather your loved ones in Liberty Station’s North Promenade for live entertainment from 5:00pm to 6:00pm and then gaze upon the 88-foot Norfolk Pine Tree as it is lit up by a patient family of Rady Children’s Hospital at 6:15pm. Throughout the evening there will be entertainment, shopping and more throughout the neighborhood.  Shopping will be set in Central Promenade, next to the ice rink, with local vendors selling holiday goodies, gifts and more.

Global Winter Wonderland: ‘Circus of Light’

This 17-acre holiday festival makes its way to San Diego for the first time ever this season, setting up at SDCCU Stadium through Jan. 7, 2018. The family-friendly international celebration features the largest display of traditional Chinese lanterns outside of China, plus acrobatics performances, carnival rides, holiday-themed activities, games, food and shopping. The little ones can even write letters to Santa Claus and visit sections like Toyland, Candyland and the North Pole. Global Winter Wonderland will open daily at either 4:30 p.m. or 5 p.m., but is closed on some dates. Celtic Choral Celebration

The Center Chorale performs its first concert of the 2017-2018 season Friday night at the Center Theater at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. The show will focus on the tunes of Scotland and Ireland, couple with bagpipes and Highland dancing. The 50-voice ensemble will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Joseph Valent and conductor Dr. Joe Stanford, a professor emeritus from Palomar College.

San Diego Mac n’ Cheese Festival

The third annual San Diego Mac n’ Cheese Festival is here this weekend! A $35 general admission ticket gets each attendee plenty of mac n’ cheese samples, plus 10 beer tastings. Save room for the Gourmet Mac n’ Cheese competition, too.

Boulevard Boo Parade

San Diego’s only Halloween parade, the 13th annual Boulevard Boo Parade returns to El Cajon Boulevard with ghoulish floats, vintage cars, costumes, bands and spooky surprises. The free parade starts at the intersection of El Cajon and Rolando boulevards then travels west to 60th Street. Visitors can view the procession from the south side of El Cajon Boulevard. After the parade, the College Avenue Baptist Church (4747 College Ave.) will host the free AfterBOO! Carnival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring rides, games, inflatable play structures, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors and live music.

Halloween Family Day

The free 9th annual Balboa Park Halloween Family Day gives families a safe, fun, and culturally inspired way to kick off their Halloween activities.

Over two dozen participating museums and cultural attractions will present free craft projects for kids, costume parades and contests, and other spooky surprises from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participating museums offer free admission to children 12 and under with paying adult.

The 6th Annual HauntFest on Main is an exciting family-friendly event in Downtown El Cajon.

The event features live music on two stages featuring: Costume contests on the Main St. Stage; an expanded carnival rides and games; car show; candy challenge activities; kidz zone, face painting; performances by TNT Dancers, Arts In Motion Crew & Jr. Crew, and St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center Pumpkin Patch; craft and game booths; LED rock wall; inflatables for kids; “Ghostbusters” movies outdoors and more!

DogFest Walk ‘N’ Roll San Diego

Get ready for a tail waggin’ good time at DogFest Walk ‘n Roll San Diego, the national signature event of Canine Companions for Independence! Grab a leash and join us for lots of fun and family-friendly activities as we raise money to provide highly-trained assistance dogs for people with disabilities.

DogFest San Diego will include a scenic, fully accessible 1.2 mile dog walk followed by a celebration with dog and family-friendly activities. Enjoy music, games, amazing dog demonstrations, presentations by assistance dog recipients and more.
