San Diego County Events for March 11 – 13

So many festivals are going on this weekend down here in San Diego County!

Gardeners can enjoy orchids at the 70th Annual Show and Sale, the Irish and Irish-in-heart can check out the Irish parade and festival, film gurus can attend the Latino film festival, the musically inclined have the Spring Forward Music Festival, and foodies can learn at the Food for Thought Festival!

SDCOS 2016“Orchids in Paradise” is the theme for the San Diego County Orchid Society’s 70th Annual Show and Sale. The spring show is the Society’s premier event every year. Come enjoy the beautiful orchids; the show is going on this weekend, Friday through Sunday.

When: Friday – Sunday, March 11 – 13 | Doors will open 3pm Friday, 9am Saturday and 10am on Sunday
Where: Scottish Rite Event Center

36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Irish Festival

All of San Diego County is invited to come this weekend to enjoy all things Irish, at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival! There will be live entertainment on two stages, Irish food, festivities, vendors, and a beer garden. There’s a Celtic Village, games, activities, an art contest, dancing, and music for children.

The festival runs from 9am to 6pm, and the parade begins at 10:30am.

Food for Thought Festival

Celebrate San Diego chefs and local food at La Mesa Library’s annual Food for Thought Festival. There will be appearances by Claudia Sandoval (winner of TV’s MasterChef, Season 6), raw food expert Mimi Kirk,and La Mesa’s Bolt Brewery. It’s free!

San Diego Latino Film Festival

Returning for its 23rd year, the San Diego Latino Film Festival celebrates the best films by Latinos and/or films about the Latino experience.

There will be screenings of more than 160 movies as well as a fashion show, wine and beer fest, art exhibits, celebrity appearances, Sonido Latino concerts, filmmaker workshops, a parade and parties.

Bike The Coast – Taste the Coast

Bike the Coast, Taste the Coast

A non-competitive bike ride that begins at the Oceanside Pier and travels down along the Pacific Ocean coastline and into the rustic north county of San Diego and then back to the Oceanside Pier.  Choose from a 7-mile ride, or a 25-mile ride.
Time:  7:00 am – 4:30 pm / Expo opens at 9:30

According to their website, www.bike-the-coast.com, online registration slots are sold out; in-person registration is only available now on November 4th. There will be a limited number of registrations available on a first come, first served basis during packet pick-up on November 4 (Oceanside Pier, noon – 8pm).  You can still sign up for free bike training workout mileages from John Howard to get tuned up.  
Free admission to Friday’s “Movie Night at the Pier” and the Friday and Saturday bike expo and food vendors.
