Insect Festival

Get acquainted with thousands of fascinating creepy-crawlies including live insects, snakes, lizards and the famous Madagascar hissing cockroaches. Haunted Tales of our Seafaring Past

For a historically haunting experience, venture on board the Star of India, the world’s oldest active sailing ship for a special 45-60 minute tour. Part of San Diego’s Maritime Museum collection, the Star of India’s storied past includes real-life encounters with ghosts, and the tour includes special activities for the family, including seafaring ghost stories and “creepy treats.” Kids are encouraged to wear costumes.

2013 Escondido Fall Street Faire

Since 1989, the Escondido Street Faire has brought live entertainment, over 500 vendors, children’s rides and activities, and food from around the world to the downtown tree-lined streets of Escondido. Covering seven blocks along historic Grand Avenue, the Escondido Street Fair is the second largest single-day fair in California.

Pumpkin Express

Join in the fun aboard the Pumpkin Express at the historic Campo Depot and travel to the Great Pumpkin Patch. Children and their parents will enjoy the one hour train ride, then tour the Haunted Train, where each child gets to pick out his or her own pumpkin and decorate it inside the Display Building.

Event: ArtWalk at NTC Liberty Station

art_walkFormerly ArtWalk on the Bay, ArtWalk San Diego @NTC Liberty Station (shortened to ArtWalk @NTC) builds upon the success of the past 7 years at San Diego’s Bayfront. This 8th annual event takes place in San Diego’s flagship arts and culture district, NTC @ Liberty Station,  once San Diego’s Naval Training Center, and now a mecca for artist studios, galleries, museums and performing arts groups.

This fine art festival is part of the ArtWalk San Diego brand known for bringing together all facets of the arts in San Diego while promoting the experience of owning original art.

This August, ArtWalk @NTC is set to draw more than 100 artists, a dozen musical  performers, gourmet food and interactive kids’ activities at KidsWalk. The new destination for the festival is complemented by an array of dining options at this scenic venue.

Attendees will be able to experience art “alfresco.” ArtWalk @NTC brings fine art outside under San Diego’s sunny skies to create the perfect viewing art under natural light and purchase artwork directly from the finest artists in the region. Attendees get to meet with artists and hear what inspires them about their work. Event: Family Movies by the Lake

 

Join your family and friends underneath the stars at Santee Lakes Recreation Reserve to watch Wreck-it Ralph on July 19. The Avengers will play on August 2 and Rise of the Guardians will play on August 16.

Although the movie doesn’t start until 8 p.m., make sure to come early to spread out your picnic and participate in the games and contests set up for kids. The movie is free; however, there is a $8 parking fee. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Event: San Diego Wooden Boat Festival

The 22nd annual San Diego Wooden Boat Festival

The 22nd annual San Diego Wooden Boat Festival, features more than 70 classic crafts, seminars on traditional maritime skills, activities for kids, and live music featuring “Heritage” who will be performing tradional seafaring tunes from the 18th and 19th centuries at the Koehler Kraft boatyard on Shelter Island. This is the premier annual event for Southern California traditional wooden boat enthusiasts and provides a rare opportunity for the general public to view these crafts up close.
