Seas ‘n’ Greetings

The magic of the holidays meets the magic of the underwater world at Birch Aquarium during Seas ‘n’ Greetings, a month-long holiday celebration featuring SEAsonal activities for the whole family.

From December 1 to 31, Birch Aquarium  is transformed into a holiday wonderland. Deck the Hall (of Fishes) and get into the holiday spirit every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and check the schedule for special appearances by Scuba Santa as well as themed animal encounters, a scavenger hunt, and fun photo opportunities. On Saturdays and Sundays, things are even more festive with live music and two daily dive shows. The schedule changes daily, so check the calendar for details. All Seas ‘n’ Greetings activities are included with admission.

Holiday Nights at Bernardo Winery

Ice skating at Poway ICE Arena

Bundle up in warm clothes and go enjoy a public skate session for all ages and skating levels at Poway Ice Arena. The whole family can do this activity together as a fun and novel way to get some exercise. There are additional public skate sessions offered Weds.-Sun. Check here for more days and times.

Garden of Lights at San Diego Botanic Garden

After the sun goes down in December, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland – Southern California Style! More than 125,000 sparkling lights illuminate the flora of this fantastic 37-acre urban oasis each evening for a magical holiday experience. Bring the family and enjoy the Garden at night as the lights illuminate several spectacular Garden areas.

There is no Garden of Lights on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Holiday by the Bay

The 5th Annual Giving Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 24th at 6:30 p.m. at the Headquarters at Seaport Village’s courtyard. On Saturday, November 25, 2017, the Hilton San Diego Bayfront will commence its 2nd Annual Holiday by the Bay Ice Skating celebration. From November 24, 2017 to December 18, 2017, USO San Diego invites members of the community to drop off gifts for children.

Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities

Gather your loved ones in Liberty Station’s North Promenade for live entertainment from 5:00pm to 6:00pm and then gaze upon the 88-foot Norfolk Pine Tree as it is lit up by a patient family of Rady Children’s Hospital at 6:15pm. Throughout the evening there will be entertainment, shopping and more throughout the neighborhood.  Shopping will be set in Central Promenade, next to the ice rink, with local vendors selling holiday goodies, gifts and more.

Christmas Arts, Crafts & Vintage Market

Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center will host this three-day craft fair featuring more than 80 artisans selling their homemade goodies and fine art. While visitors shop, musicians will perform live. Free hayrides with Santa Claus will be offered on Friday and Saturday between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Global Winter Wonderland: ‘Circus of Light’

This 17-acre holiday festival makes its way to San Diego for the first time ever this season, setting up at SDCCU Stadium through Jan. 7, 2018. The family-friendly international celebration features the largest display of traditional Chinese lanterns outside of China, plus acrobatics performances, carnival rides, holiday-themed activities, games, food and shopping. The little ones can even write letters to Santa Claus and visit sections like Toyland, Candyland and the North Pole. Global Winter Wonderland will open daily at either 4:30 p.m. or 5 p.m., but is closed on some dates. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park kicks off the fall season with its annual Fall Festival. The museums and merchants in the state park will be decorated and host family-friendly games, activities, and entertainment reminiscent of an old-fashioned harvest celebration including a pumpkin-carving demonstration from noon to 4 pm under a large shade tree in the center town plaza, musical entertainment and face painting in the central plaza, and pumpkin painting, corn shucking, and environmentally friendly bird-feeder making in a specially decorated Harvest Home. Participating merchants will also have craft activities inside their stores.

Fleet Week San Diego

Fleet Week San Diego (Oct. 11-17) runs through this weekend, a tradition that honors and celebrates the men and women of the U.S. military through public events that support our heroes. Events open to the public include Friday’s USO Concert in the Park at 5 p.m. at North Embarcadero Marina Park. The USO Show Troupe will perform songs from the 1940s to present day, while the second half of the show features the “beach country” sounds of Tim Hurley.

Harvest Festival: Original Art and Craft Show

This traveling, 3-day shopping and entertainment festival brings more than 24,000 handmade, American arts and crafts to the Del Mar Fairgrounds from jewelry and pottery to clothing and more. Between booths, grab a bite from food vendors and enjoy live entertainment.

Stars at Mission Trails

The San Diego Astronomy Association leads another stargazing session at Mission Trails Friday night, this time at the east end of the Kumeyaay Lake Campground’s day use parking lot. The three-hour event is free; the Astronomy Association will provide telescopes for those in attendance to use during the event.

28th Annual Vista Rod Run

44th Annual San Diego Scottish Highland Games

The 41-year-old Fred Hall Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is the largest outdoor recreation show in the nation’s fifth largest county. It is San Diego’s biggest fishing show, biggest boat show and biggest outdoor recreation event of the year. The show features nearly 500 booths, hundreds of boats, vehicles, campers and RV’s. Over 200 outdoor recreation seminars will take place over the 4 days of this show.

Stars at West Sycamore

Join the San Diego Astronomy Association (SDAA) for this springtime stargazing session at Mission Trails Regional Park Friday night. The famous Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch officially opened for the season on March 1; the fields are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through May 14. Patrons will enjoy nearly 50 acres of colorful displays of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers, which are in bloom for six to eight weeks. The famous fields also include roses, orchids, sweet pea blossoms, petunias and poinsettias.
