San Diego County Events for April 14 – 16

Happy Easter! As expected, the majority of things to do this weekend are Easter egg hunts for the kids, but there are a couple of other options as well. Check out my list below:

Easter in the Courtyard

Foothills Christian Church in El Cajon will host its annual Easter in the Courtyard on Saturday which includes an egg hunt boasting 14,000 Easter eggs. Also on the agenda: jumpy houses, carnival games, a shop-and-swap zone and food for sale from Ray’s BBQ.

Spring Eggstravaganza

At the Spring Eggstravaganza at Santee Lakes, have fun with the kids! There’s going to be continuous egg hunts for kids eight and younger, plus – carnival rides, pony rides, crafts, Primo DJ and more fun for the entire family.

Grossmont Easter Egg Hunt

Check out Grossmont Center for eggs-tra special fun, free kid-friendly crafts and activities, an Easter Egg Hunt, costumed characters, face painters, balloon artists, hair styling and more. Get ready for an egg-sperience to remember this Easter at Grossmont Center. Plus, don’t forget to get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny!

Cat-illacs concert

Part of Seaport Village’s concert series, the Cat-illacs will perform Sunday afternoon with rock-n-roll music.

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

The famous Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch officially opened for the season on March 1; the fields are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through May 14. Patrons will enjoy nearly 50 acres of colorful displays of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers, which are in bloom for six to eight weeks. The famous fields also include roses, orchids, sweet pea blossoms, petunias and poinsettias.

This Sunday, there will also be an Easter service at 6:30am, as well as The Bayou Brothers performing 1-5pm.

With such a beautiful spring weekend ahead for us, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out and explore some of the great events San Diego County has to offer!

San Diego’s largest health and fitness expo returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., respectively. The event educates attendees on everything involving health and wellness and will feature 30 expert-led lectures and workshops on topics like fitness, healthy eating, better sleep habits and how to reduce stress. In addition, there will be free medical screenings, too, and attendees will also enjoy cooking demos and tips from renowned chefs.

Eggstravaganza

April Pools Day

In preparation for May — the drowning prevention month — the city of La Mesa is focused on bringing water awareness to the community. Learn how to keep children safe around water with water safety and CPR presentations, rescue demonstrations, lesson demonstrations, free swim lessons and recreational swim at the municipal pool.

Macy’s Museum Month

February is Macy’s Museum Month. It’s a great time to explore more than 40 museums across San Diego County. From art to history and science to nature museums offer something for everyone and every age.

Free passes are available at Macy’s stores in San Diego and Temecula. One pass is good for up to four half-price admission at each museum all month long.

Parade of Lights

Festive lights illuminating the San Diego Bay can only mean one thing: the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is back – a holiday tradition upheld by the local boating community bulb for bulb, year after year. In its 45th year, the dazzling display of lights covering more than 80 boats can be seen from several prime locations along the waterfront route — from Shelter Island past Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village and Coronado’s Ferry Landing.

Carols by Candlelight

The 27th annual Carols by Candlelight concert features musical stars singing holiday classics to benefit San Diego’s Rady Children’s Hospital. This year’s lineup includes: BJ Thomas; Brandy Clark; Collin Raye; Noah Guthrie; Eve Selis; and Anna and Steve Vaus. The show will be held both Friday and Saturday at the concert hall at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido; tickets range from $18 to $67.

Event: La Mesa Flag Day Parade

If you haven’t been to the City of La Mesa’s Flag Day Parade in recent years, come to East San Diego County this Saturday, May 30, to enjoy a celebration of America — this year’s theme is “A Salute to Old Glory – Celebrate America”.

flagPre-parade entertainment will take place from 9 to 10am, with the La Mesa Middle School Band performing at Palm Ave and La Mesa Blvd, and Parkway Middle School Band at Nebo Dr and La Mesa Blvd.

The parade will begin at 10am and goes through downtown La Mesa Village. Entries in the parade include marching bands, floats and more.

Come to downtown La Mesa dressed in your patriotic attire and enjoy the city’s free parade!

Event: La Mesa Flag Day Parade

La Mesa Flag Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

La Mesa, CAThis patriotic event is an annual tradition. Festivities usually begin at 9:00 am with our pre-parade concerts. The parade starts at 10:00 am, and proceeds along La Mesa Boulevard from Memorial Drive, through the downtown village, to city hall.
