San Diego County Events for May 26 – 29

This Memorial Day weekend, there’s much to choose from; use these activities and events to help you remember those who lost their lives in service to our county.

Celebrating its ninth year, the Santee Street Fair and Craft Beer Festival will host its fourth annual beer festival featuring local breweries. Military will be honored this year with the Heroes Stage. New to this year’s event will be a special program to recognize children with parents currently serving in the armed forces. Festival highlights include a craft beer festival, live music and entertainment, more than 300 food and craft vendor booths, carnival rides–including a rock climbing wall–and games for the family.

Oasis Camel Dairy’s Open Farm and Show

Spend your Saturday socializing with camels at the well-known Oasis Camel Dairy’s open farm and show. Participants will get a chance to pet and ride the friendly animals. Later in the day, watch a birds show. Tickets start at $7.

Legacy Week 2017 at the USS Midway Museum

The USS Midway Museum is the heart and soul of Memorial Day celebration in San Diego. Activities will honor and remember our heroes and celebrate our military heritage.

Birding Basics

El Cajon Dinner & A Concert Series

One of El Cajon’s premier events, our Dinner & A Concert Series is back again this year in the center of Downtown El Cajon. Dinner & A Concert is a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to many of our local bands and musicians. 14th Annual Lebanese Food Festival

It’s Memorial Day Weekend; a day to remember all of those who died while serving in our country’s armed forces. When you’re spending time with your family this weekend, enjoying some of the Memorial Day Weekend activities and events, take some time to remember all that those who protect our country do!

Before being turned into a maritime museum, “225,000 Midway sailors…served our country and upheld the American ideals of strength, freedom and peace” (USS Midway Museum, www.midway.org/visitors).

On Saturday, there will be a free remembrance ceremony paying tribute to World War II veterans. 9 a.m. on the USS Midway Museum. WWII veterans in person, live entertainment, a flyover, memorial wreath presentations and a San Diego Harbor Patrol water salute. All who attend will be able to tour the ship at no cost. When you visit the USS Midway, you’ll see 29 restored aircraft, the many locations where the sailors worked, ate and slept, and 60 different exhibits.

Memorial service at Miramar National Cemetery

Memorial service at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive. The speakers will be Capt. Laura Scotty, assistant chief of staff for the commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command, and Joel Sollender of Poway, who served with Gen. George Patton’s 3rd Army on the Siegfried Line in northern France and was taken prisoner by a German Army tank crew for four months.
