The Sky Tonight: Lunar Eclipse

Join us at the Fleet on Sunday, January 20, to celebrate a fascinating lunar eclipse. The spectacle will also feature a beautiful, rare, red moon before the eclipse begins. Beginning at 4 p.m., you can participate in solar system-themed, hands-on activities in the theater lobby. At 6 p.m., make your way to the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater for a special viewing of one of the Fleet’s most popular films, Hubble, narrated by the one and only Leonardo DiCaprio. At 7:30 p.m., the Fleet’s resident astronomer, Dr. Lisa Will, will take you on a journey through our solar system and explain more about lunar eclipses during an exclusive presentation of the Fleet’s The Sky Tonight planetarium show. Following the lecture, the San Diego Astronomy Association invites you to use their telescopes to see the lunar eclipse and the red moon.

39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade

Join us on Harbor Drive Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. for the 39th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. This is one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the United States in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The parade is filled with dazzling floats, phenomenal high school bands, drill teams, college, fraternities & sororities, churches, peace and youth organizations.

ArchaeoCon 2019

Guided Nature Walk – Mission Trails Regional Park

Start your Sunday with a little nature walk at Mission Trails Regional Park. A trail guide will take visitors through one of three trails — the Oak Grove Loop, the Visitor Center Loop or the Riverside Grinding Rocks — while talking about the plants, animals, geology, history, and ecology of the park. These weekly guided walks are free and open to the public and begin at the Visitor Center.

Holiday Food Truck Festival

For five days and evenings between Christmas and New Year’s Day, Dec. 26 to 30, the annual Holiday Food Truck Festival serves up gourmet food from 15 of San Diego’s top food trucks, along with free live entertainment and fun activities for families.

Special Spreckels Organ Concert

To honor members of the Spreckels Organ Society and salute the 104th anniversary of the great Spreckels Organ, Raúl Prieto Ramírez will play a special concert at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 14. Coronado’s Annual Holiday Parade

Coronado’s  43rd Annual Holiday Parade will happen tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at 6 p.m.

This hometown parade is a true holiday tradition and thousands line the street each year to kick off the holiday season in style! The parade starts at 6 p.m., but many come early to Rotary Plaza to sing carols from 5-6 p.m. and anxiously await Santa’s arrival via fire truck. Once Santa arrives, one lucky local family is selected each year to help the Mayor flip the switch on Star Pine.

Downtown Chula Vista will transform into a Winter Wonderland with real snow for sledding, holly, jolly treats like photos with Santa, fun games, story time, train rides, bounce house, ornament making and an all new “Elf Yourself” station where the little ones can dress up in hats, face painting and glitter bar to magically transform into Santa’s Little Helpers.

Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities

The community is invited to enjoy the holiday magic with an 88-foot Norfolk pine tree lighting, a Holiday Marketplace with local vendors, Christmas carolers, pictures with Santa, a viewing of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” and more!

Live entertainment will kick off the evening at 5 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., the tree lighting ceremony will commence as a patient family of Rady Children’s Hospital lights the towering Christmas tree from top to bottom.

Holiday Lights on Main Street

Prescott Promenade in El Cajon will look like a winter village as the annual Holiday Lights on Main Street festival takes over the outdoor courtyard. Dozens of local retailers will gather in the promenade to sell fashion and jewelry, art, books, delicious treats and more. Nearby, Santa will take pictures with visitors and guests can take to the ice for a skating session or some carnival rides. The event is in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, which invites people to “shop local” on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Stay until 6 p.m. to see the Christmas tree light up with holiday magic.

Surfin’ Santa

Santa Claus — in board shorts. The 13th annual Surfin’ Santa celebration brings the jolly fella to Seaport Village only, instead of a sleigh, Santa will arrive on a boat along the San Diego Bay. Once on land, visitors can pose with Santa before enjoying a parade and live performances along the bayside boardwalk. It is free to see Santa but Seaport Village encourages visitors to stick around and shop small at the many stores there as part of Small Business Saturday.

The 9th annual Pomegranate Days at the Oasis Camel Dairy is an experience you will enjoy and talk about all next year! This event is the real deal! The elements that shine during Pomegranate Days are genuine, family-driven, family-owned and REAL.
