Easter Egg Hunt

You’ll want to hop on over to the Children’s Nature Retreat for our Easter Egg Hunt and look for the “Special Retreat Egg.”  The big hunt begins at 10:30am on Saturday, March 31st. There will be plenty of candy-filled eggs hidden around the Retreat for even the most inexperienced egg seeker.

Along with the hunt, there will be a keeper talk with a special appearance by our big 10-pound white bunny, Easter, at 11:30AM at the picnic area.  Come hear the story of how Easter showed up at the Retreat and learn all about our soft, furry friends.

Swing into the 2018 baseball season with the 8th Annual East Village Opening Day Weekend Block Party!

Spring Tails

Spring Tails is the perfect program for a class field trip, Scout outing, or play group activity because it makes science egg-citing! 6th Annual Bankers Hill Art & Craft Beer Festival

Following last year’s sold out event, the Bankers Hill Art & Craft Beer Festival in partnership with the San Diego Brewers Guild will return for its sixth year on Friday, March 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. Taking place throughout the two levels of The Abbey on Fifth Avenue, a historic 10,000-square foot venue, this 21+ event will showcase San Diego breweries and Bankers Hill restaurants alongside pop-up galleries of local artists’ works.

This year’s festival will feature larger tasting glasses for guests who will have unlimited access to complimentary 2-ounce pours from approximately fifteen breweries

Carlsbad Flower Fields

On March 24 and 25, enjoy full days of fun at The Flower Fields with Kids’ Day. Saturday features a bounce house, woodworking with The Children’s Workshop, drumming, bubble making and more. Sunday we will have Star Kids Theater, Ballooning and face painting!

Spring is in the air and Carlsbad is in bloom at the Flower Fields, open now through May 13. Take yourself out of the ordinary and spend a few hours in one of nature’s wonders – our Fields of Dreams, our Fields of Color. A place where kids can run and adults can linger – 50 acres of extraordinary color in bloom on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with a special nursery, garden, and gift shop by Armstrong Garden Centers, and festivals throughout the season.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Annual San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade (largest Parade west of the Mississippi) will step off on Saturday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. on Fifth Avenue at Laurel Street as thousands of marchers and spectators gather to celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland.

We have over 120 Parade entries. See floats, high school marching bands, police and fire department units, dancing groups,marching and equestrian units, clowns, dignitaries and honorees, representatives from Ireland, antique cars, Irish setters and more.

The Theme of this year’s Parade is “Celebrating Our Irish Roots”.

Storytelling Festival

Come one, come all for a storied day of the wearin’ of the green at the Storytelling Festival. Wise Fools is the theme for World Storytelling Day. During this global celebration of the art of oral storytelling, there are special children’s programs, out-of-town guests, and a culminating concert for adults.

Personal storytelling shines with Scott Whitehair of Chicago, and the Pandarvis’ stories of being professional surfers. Students from Paul Ecke Elementary will perform. Randel McGee and his dragon puppet sidekick, Groark, are a special treat for all ages.

Come get involved in workshops: Personal Storytelling; Puppetry 101 Hands On; and The Joy of Bible Storytelling. Savor it all. The Simply Fresh Gourmet Food Truck will be outside during lunch time.

Treasures from San Diego’s University Libraries

This spring, Mingei International Museum will shine a spotlight on the lesser-known libraries of UC San Diego, San Diego State University and University of San Diego. VOLUMINOUS ART – Treasures from San Diego’s University Libraries will celebrate the art of the book by showcasing approximately 25 volumes from each library collection, a sampling that will hint at centuries-old practices of book design, typography, binding and printing.

Second Saturday Art Lesson

Tints, tones, and shades, oh my! Immerse yourself in the world of shamrocks, rolling hills, flowers and leaves as we celebrate the season. In this lesson you’ll learn how mix paints to create new hues to express space, depth and form in your spring-time scenes.

Please note: due to the popularity of our Second Saturday art lessons, we now have two times available to participate. The first lesson will run from 10-11 a.m., and the second lesson will run from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Circus Vargas

Circus Vargas has been making its rounds and, this weekend, it keeps the show going at Escondido Westfield North County. The traveling show boasts thrilling performances by acrobats, daredevils, flying trapeze artists, jugglers, contortionists, comics and more. The Circus Vargas theme is “Dreaming of Pirates,” so attendees can expect some swashbuckling surprises. Take the family 30 minutes before show time and enjoy a special, free pre-show where kids can create their own magic under the big top. Tickets range from $15 to $72; kids age 2 and under get in free with a paying adult, so long as they sit on an adult’s lap. Circus Vargas will be in Escondido through this Monday before moving north to Temecula on March 8.

Spring Home & Garden Show

Get inspiration for the home improvement project of your dreams at the 33rd annual Spring Home & Garden Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This three-day expo will showcase some of the newest trends in home renovation while giving access to the best tools, experts, and businesses to help complete those projects. Tickets cost $9 per day. The Home & Garden Show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

31st Annual Koi Show

Koi fish have become known as “living jewels” because of their bright orange hues and quick movements in the water that seem to make them reflect. This weekend, hundreds of the magnificent fish will be on display for a Koi pond competition at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Guests can learn how to create a water garden in their backyard to keep Koi as pets or just soak in the wonder of the fish. The event is free but parking at the fairgrounds is $14.

Camp Shred

Surf Ride and SURFER have teamed up to bring Camp Shred, the world’s largest surf demo, back to San Elijo Campground in Cardiff by the Sea, Calif., February 24-25. The sixth annual event once again brings the best surfing brands and thousands of their loyal consumers together for a fun weekend of surfing while giving back to California State Parks.

The free and open to the public festival, also featuring music, entertainment, food trucks, acai bowls from Sambazon, coffee from iVibe Coffee, and a beer garden, will run 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday. Proceeds from the Pizza Port Beer Garden will benefit California State Parks, specifically the Friends of Cardiff and Carlsbad State Beaches (FCCSB).

Arts, entertainment and culture collide for Macy’s Museum Month in San Diego. This February the San Diego Museum Council and Macy’s have teamed up again for Museum Month, giving patrons a chance to discover what’s new at more than 40 area museums with savings only seen once a year.

San Diego Theatre Week

San Diego Theatre Week is an exciting program of the San Diego Performing Arts League (SDPAL). The mission of San Diego Theatre Week is to highlight the variety and enhance the awareness of San Diego’s diverse performing arts community.

Participating performing arts groups will be offering a variety of special promotions during the week of February 15-25.  Tickets will be offered at $15, $30 and $45 levels.

San Diego Jewish Film Festival

Now in its 28th year, the San Diego Jewish Film Festival has become one of the largest and most highly acclaimed Jewish Film Festivals in the country. Today, with more than 17,000 ticket holders, SDJFF is the most widely attended annual Jewish cultural event in San Diego. The 11-day Festival features over 80 screenings of international films at five theatre venues.
