Sculpture in the Garden

The sprawling botanical garden in Encinitas (230 Quail Gardens Drive) is featuring the sculpture work of 30 artists through the month of April. See the artwork, ranging from whimsical to abstract, set against a backdrop of dragon trees, rare fruit gardens, bamboo groves and ponds.

ArtWalk @ Liberty Station

ArtWalk @ Liberty Station celebrates 13 years of bringing visual arts,  music, and interactive art-making for families to San Diego in beautiful Ingram Plaza at the Arts District at LIberty Station. The Arts District at Liberty Station has blossomed into San Diego’s premier venue for the arts, museums, dining and entertainment.  The beautiful outdoor setting, surrounding a picturesque rose garden, is flat, grassy, and easily accessible for both artists and attendees. 33rd Annual Philippine Cultural Arts Festival

The SAMAHAN Filipino American Performance Arts and Education Center will hold its 33rd Philippine Cultural Arts Festival from Aug. 11 to 12. A family-oriented event focused on cultural heritage, entertainment and networking, this festival appeals to the whole family and allows San Diego locals as well as tourists the opportunity to learn about Philippine culture and performing arts through dances and music.

The Coronado Flower Show is held annually on the third weekend of April in Spreckels Park in the center of Coronado’s Village.

The Coronado Flower Show is the largest tented flower show in the nation. Exhibits are placed inside tents surrounding a central gazebo, which becomes the stage for continuous entertainment, announcements and trophy presentations.

48th Chicano Park Day Celebration

2018 Del Mar National Horse Show

For nearly three-quarters of a century, equestrian sports aficionados have marked their calendars each April and May for the Del Mar National Horse Show, held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the beautiful seaside town of Del Mar, California.

Each year the Del Mar National attracts more than 1,500 horses representing many breeds across three distinctly different disciplines – Western, Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper. Spectators will see world-class performances in reining with its famous spins and sliding stops, elegant and athletic dressage moves choreographed to music, and nail-biting daredevil show jumping! Evening events feature trick riders, comedy acts, thrills and spills, and breed demonstrations, among many other exciting acts. The competition for prize money, trophies, and ribbons is fierce!

Pacific Rim Festival

The Second Annual Pacific Rim Festival is coming to Chula Vista!

In conjunction with Chula Vista Maritime Week and sponsored by the Port of San Diego, this event celebrates Pacific Rim food and lifestyle culture and will be held at the Bayside Park in Chula Vista.

48th Chicano Park Day

The annual celebration will be held in historic Chicano Park, located in the Logan Heights community, south of downtown San Diego under the San Diego-Coronado bridge. This year’s theme is ‘Chicano Park: El Corazón de Aztlán.’ This family event is free and open to the public.

Visitors to Chicano Park Day will experience traditional music and dance, including one of the most beautiful performances of Aztec Indigenous dance, coordinated by coordinated by Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca.

The event will feature performances, and in addition, there will be a display of classic lowrider cars presented by Amigos Car Club, children’s art workshop and various informational booths. Food, and arts and crafts vendors will be selling their specialties throughout Chicano Park.

Lagoon Day 2018

Come for a day of family-friendly events. On Saturday, April 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Del Mar Lagoon Committee is planning a day of fun for all ages at the Birdwing Open Air Classroom, located east of San Andres and just below Via de la Valle. At 8:30 a.m., a guide will lead interested participants on a bird walk. At 11 a.m., Sky Hunters will present live native raptors. This will be followed by three hours of events including art projects, hands-on science, and animal identification games. Admission is free and participants may drop in at any time.

Sunday Organ Concert

Enjoy a free, hour-long organ concert Sunday at Balboa Park’s famed Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At the keys, the audience will find Raul Prieto Ramirez, the city’s newest San Diego Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Prieto Ramirez hails from Spain and, as he told NBC 7, hopes to keep the program interesting – from Bach to Queen – at the historic Spreckels Organ.
