Enjoy a movie under the stars at this outdoor theater on Goldfinch Street in Mission Hills. The winter/spring screening season recently began, with a movie playing at 8 p.m. now through April 29 every Friday and Saturday night. This weekend, the Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford flick, “Blade Runner 2049,” is on the big screen. Check the Cinema Under the Stars website for a schedule of which movies are playing when throughout the season.

Salsa Under the Stars

This free event invites you to salsa dance under the stars in the courtyard of The Headquarters shopping center – no partner or experience required. Music will be performed by the Manny Cepeda Orchestra.

CRY San Diego’s Color The Sky Kite Festival 2018

CRY San Diego’s Color the Sky Kite Festival is back! Join us and hundreds of others in beautiful Coronado for live music, Indian food and snacks, desi kites and more! Kites and thread will be included with registration, while supplies last. Food and water will be available for purchase.

Make N’ Play Family Music Day

Children will have the opportunity to create an instrument of their own. In this, the first of these interactive workshops, the focus will be on making a box guitar. Younger children will be able to make simpler instruments such as shakers and rattles. With their new instruments, children will be invited to “join a band” and play with others on the stage.

Free snacks, giveaways and additional hands-on activities round out this fun filled afternoon! No experience necessary and all supplies are provided. Adults must accompany children. Geared toward children ages 4-12 and their families.

Santee Active Lifestyle Expo

This free event Saturday in Santee highlights some of the many health and wellness activities San Diego County has to offer. The event kicks off with the U.S. Track & Field 50KM Race Walk Championships at 7:30 a.m. Then, guests can explore the Expo and try extreme obstacle courses, test fitness classes, shop the vendor fair and meet elite athletes.

Sunday Organ Concert

Enjoy a free, hour-long organ concert Sunday at Balboa Park’s famed Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At the keys, the audience will find Raul Prieto Ramirez, the city’s newest San Diego Civic Organist and Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Prieto Ramirez hails from Spain and, as he told NBC 7, hopes to keep the program interesting – from Bach to Queen – at the historic Spreckels Organ.

La Mesa Sundays at Six Concert SeriesEvery year, La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation puts on some free family fun with their Sundays at Six concert series. This year’s fun begins this Sunday at 6pm, with the San Diego Concert Band!

Fido Fest 2016

The free event will have dozens of giveaways, discounted vaccinations and microchipping, live entertainment, obedience demonstrations, and more. If you’re looking for a dog, rescue organizations will be at the fest with plenty of dogs looking for homes.

San Diego Festival Of The Arts

Known as the La Jolla Festival of the Arts for the past 29 years, this annual event has brought established and emerging artists from around the world to San Diego. For the event’s 30th anniversary in 2016, it is getting both a new name, becoming the San Diego Festival of the Arts, and a new location.

Encinitas Food Truck Film Festival

47th Annual San Diego Greek Festival

The parishioners of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church invite all to a celebration of culture and community in the heart of San Diego. This annual gathering offers a variety of Greek cuisine, handmade pastries, and traditional Greek coffee, all within the festive atmosphere of music and dance.

How-To Festival

San Diego Public Library is hosting the How-To Festival on Saturday. There’s more than 70 different 4-hour long classes that you can take for free; including: first-aid, brew beer, solder, and more. 17th Annual Scripps Ranch Community Fair

Nestled in the beautiful Scripps Ranch Community Park, the Fair showcases a variety of community groups, businesses and vendors. At the fair, there will be music, Kids’ Zone with fun rides, facepainting, and hands-on activities. You and your family will enjoy delicious food and refreshments, a stop by the Wine & Beer Garden, live entertainment onstage, and a free concert that night. Hosted by the Scripps Ranch Civic Association (SRCA).

Grand Avenue Festival

At the Grand Avenue Festival, 500 vendors, children’s rides and activities will line the streets of Escondido Sunday as residents come out to enjoy rides, live music and children’s games. The festival crosses seven historic blocks of the city and marks the second largest single-day fair in California. Event: Family Movies by the Lake

 

Join your family and friends underneath the stars at Santee Lakes Recreation Reserve to watch Wreck-it Ralph on July 19. The Avengers will play on August 2 and Rise of the Guardians will play on August 16.

Although the movie doesn’t start until 8 p.m., make sure to come early to spread out your picnic and participate in the games and contests set up for kids. The movie is free; however, there is a $8 parking fee. Gates open at 4 p.m.
