San Diego County Events for September 8 – 10

Several San Diego festivals are happening this weekend; check out the Greek Festival, go to the Brewfest, or attend one of the other ones below!

The San Diego Blues Festival features members of the Blues Hall of Fame, a Grammy Award winner and many other blues acts. This year the family-friendly event will feature 9 musical acts on two stages featuring the talents of the California Honeydrops, Joe Louis Walker, and Grammy award-winning artist Mavis Staples. Festival attendees will enjoy local craft beer, food vendors, specialty cocktails and wine, along with arts and crafts vendors. All proceeds and food drive donations will benefit the Food Bank.

Cardiff Greek Festival

Poway Community Day Festival

To an open-air market every Friday afternoon from 2pm – 6pm at the intersection of University Avenue and Spring Street. Sponsored by the City of La Mesa, the market offers farm fresh goods including flowers, produce and live plants.

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

This (July 28 & 29) Friday & Saturday’s free movies (find locations via the schedule link) include:

Vista BBQ Classic

The Vista BBQ Classic is an official Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned event in Historic Downtown Vista.  For the past 8 years, teams have traveled from all over the state to compete for prize money, trophies, points and bragging rights.

BBQ teams will descend on Historic Downtown Vista on Friday, July 28th, starting as early as 8AM to spend up to 24 hours seasoning, smoking, and grilling their choice cut of meats for competition day on Saturday, July 29th.  Our 2017 award-winning teams will compete for a total of $10,000 prize money, KCBS points and trophies.

Bollywood by the Sea

On Friday, 7/28 from 6 pm – 9 pm enjoy Bollywood by the Sea in our center courtyard, led by Bollywood Steps!

Experience live performances, dance lessons, music and even get your own free henna tattoo. This is a great opportunity to learn about a new culture or do something different for date night. Open to all ages.

Stagecoach Days: Soldiers & Citizens

Old Town San Diego continues its summer “Stagecoach Days” celebration with more historical demonstrations in the plaza, in the heart of the park. On Saturday, the “Soldiers & Citizens” theme will celebrate the military’s role in San Diego, focusing on the Mexican-American War and the soldiers of many cultures that came to San Diego very early on. The day includes a chance to see historic military uniforms, weapons and hear the stories of these soldiers.

Extreme AutoFest

Extreme AutoFest, a large-scale automotive show, will boast hundreds of tricked-out show cars, SUVs, trucks, and motorcycles from around the world, all competing for cash, prizes and, of course, bragging rights on the streets. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for kids ages 6 to 12; kids under 5 get in free.

San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival

The San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival returns to San Diego after a 12-year hiatus! This three-day event, open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, combines smooth jazz, delicious local eats, and the beautiful San Diego skyline.

‘Much Ado About Nothing’ At Coronado Playhouse

With such a beautiful spring weekend ahead for us, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out and explore some of the great events San Diego County has to offer!

San Diego’s largest health and fitness expo returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., respectively. The event educates attendees on everything involving health and wellness and will feature 30 expert-led lectures and workshops on topics like fitness, healthy eating, better sleep habits and how to reduce stress. In addition, there will be free medical screenings, too, and attendees will also enjoy cooking demos and tips from renowned chefs.

April Pools Day

In preparation for May — the drowning prevention month — the city of La Mesa is focused on bringing water awareness to the community. Learn how to keep children safe around water with water safety and CPR presentations, rescue demonstrations, lesson demonstrations, free swim lessons and recreational swim at the municipal pool.

Event: La Mesa concert series

La Mesa’s “Sundays at Six” Summer Concert Series holds another concert this weekend.

The free, family-friendly concert series in La Mesa continues this month in July with this Sunday’s event: Pine Creek Posse, bring country music to this part of San Diego County. As its name suggests, the concert will be held this Sunday, July 13 at 6pm — check it out for some good family fun!

Event: La Mesa Flag Day Parade

La Mesa Flag Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

La Mesa, CAThis patriotic event is an annual tradition. Festivities usually begin at 9:00 am with our pre-parade concerts. The parade starts at 10:00 am, and proceeds along La Mesa Boulevard from Memorial Drive, through the downtown village, to city hall.
