21st Chula Vista Lemon Festival

Celebrate Chula Vista’s historic reign as the lemon capital of the world at their Lemon Festival! Third Avenue will close to traffic and open to hundreds of vendor booths welcoming over 35,000 eager attendees rejoicing in this juicy jubilee. Sport your brightest yellow outfit and enjoy lemon-infused activities, live bands, sour contests, Lemon Pie Eating and Lemon Peeling and Largest Lemon contests, a kid’s fun zone, a craft beer garden, and hundreds of festive booths.

Oceanside International Film Festival

Held every August, Oceanside International Film Festival officially kicks off a season of various film festivals, which are conducted annually in San Diego county and usually continue through the fall. The eight-day event OIFF-2017 will run in the same format and at the same venues as the previous year, screenings and celebrations taking place at two oldest theaters in town, Star Theatre and Sunshine Brooks Theatre.

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie screenings in community parks and recreation centers throughout San Diego.

Movies begin at dusk, which is about 15 minutes after sunset. People are encouraged to come early for picnics and activities.

28th Annual Vista Rod Run

The Vista Rod Run features 300 + classic and specialty cars. Car owners compete for the best of the best to win awards and prizes.

Also featured at the Rod Run is a street fair with arts, craft, and food vendors; live entertainment; and downtown shopping.

Sip of Julian

Julian is about more than just cider and apple pies. This Saturday, spend the day getting a taste of the town’s best wine, beer, craft cocktails and hard cider. A “Sip of Julian” runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving guests time to sample all the wine, beer and liquor they want, paired with small bites at each stop.

With such a beautiful spring weekend ahead for us, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out and explore some of the great events San Diego County has to offer!

San Diego’s largest health and fitness expo returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., respectively. The event educates attendees on everything involving health and wellness and will feature 30 expert-led lectures and workshops on topics like fitness, healthy eating, better sleep habits and how to reduce stress. In addition, there will be free medical screenings, too, and attendees will also enjoy cooking demos and tips from renowned chefs.

2nd Annual San Diego Half Marathon

If you missed it in 2013 or you’re dying to run it again, the 2nd Annual San Diego Holiday Half Marathon is the same fast 13.1 mile course that starts in Rancho Penasquitos, along Carmel Mountain Rd (your only ‘real’ hill at mile 1.5), along the 56 bike path and finishes at the beautiful Torrey Pines State Beach. The race includes a 711-foot net elevation drop which also makes it a personal best candidate.

Bratwurst & Bavarian Beer Time at the 40th Annual La Mesa Oktoberfest!

The City of La Mesa will again host the annual Oktoberfest event sponsored by the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce and the La Mesa Village Merchants’ Association. The event days and hours are:

Friday, October 4th  | 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 5th | 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 6th | 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

oktoberfestThe five block section of La Mesa Boulevard from Acacia Avenue to 4th Street, and eastbound Allison Avenue from Palm Avenue to Pine Street will be closed to vehicles and open to pedestrians only. Spring Street traffic may be subject to delays.

Normally scheduled bus service on these streets has been routed around the event area, and bus riders should consult with their transit operators for route changes.

As parking around the Oktoberfest is limited, the La Mesa Police Department encourages event patrons to car pool and use the San Diego Trolley, which will be providing additional transportation capacity to accommodate this event.

Parking laws will be strictly enforced. Disabled parking has been set aside in the Lemon Avenue Municipal Parking Lot and Acacia Avenue north of La Mesa Boulevard.

The presence of all animals at this event is prohibited, except for guide dogs, signal dogs, and service dogs as defined by California State law. Violators are subject to arrest.

The La Mesa Municipal Code prohibits the possession of all alcoholic beverages at this event except in designated areas such as the Beer Garden, Beer Courts, and businesses licensed by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Violators of local and State alcoholic beverage laws will be arrested.

The La Mesa Police Department, in partnership with our community, anticipates a safe and enjoyable event for everyone in attendance.

Event: Bike the Bay

Bike the BayBike The Bay is a fun ride for people of all levels of riding ability, and features individuals, families, corporate teams and the serious and not so serious bike rider who experience a scenic bayside ride and also enjoy their only opportunity of the year to ride over the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. The 25-mile route passes through the cities of San Diego, Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City and finishes at Embarcadero Mariana Park South with a festive celebration with food, entertainment and a New Belgium beer garden.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, August 25th.

•            Start/Finish at Embarcadero Marine Park South, near Harbor Drive and Park Boulevard, San Diego

 •            Scenic and flat 25-mile, non-competitive ride along the Bayshore Bikeway
